CHARLES KING

WILLIAMSTON – Charles Jasper King, 71, husband of Peggy Bennett King, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Jasper Raymond King, Sr. and Lillian Alewine Price King.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Katie King of the home; siblings, Cecil King (Guynell) of Piedmont, Robert King (Margaret) of Mauldin, Mary Reeves of Greenville, JoAn Powers (Carol) of Weaverville, NC and Ruby Gerisch (Lewis) of Williamston.

He was predeceased by daughter, Leona Estelle King; siblings, Luke King, Kathleen Jones, Miriam Oscar Butler, Randolph Price, Frances Price Syczylo and J.R. King, Jr.

Visitation was from 12:30 to 2:00 pm Friday, February 12 at Big Creek Baptist Church.

The service followed at 2:00 pm in the church.

A private family burial was held on the family property.

The family will be at the home.

LINDA WATT

Linda Wood Watt, 74, of Piedmont, widow of Ellison Watt, died Sunday, February 14, 2016.

Born in Elbert County, GA, she was a daughter of the late Monteville Julius and Ethel Stovall Wood. She was retired from Rice Mills and a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Surviving are sister, Janice Johnson of Piedmont; son, Jeff Williams of Piedmont; daughters, Lynn Williams of Piedmont, Lynne Dixon of Simpsonville, Carol Alberson  of Greenville; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to The Golden Jewels Sunday School Class at Rehoboth Baptist Church, 1620 Old Pelzer Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.

The funeral was held Feb. 16 at Rehoboth Baptist Church with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JAMES ‘STEVE’ HENDERSON

PELZER—James Stephen Henderson, 68, husband of Barbara Jones Henderson, died Friday, February 12, 2016.

Born in Piedmont, he was a son of the late James Floyd and Louise Moody Henderson. He was an Army Veteran, retired general contractor and a member of Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Steve Henderson (Patricia) of Pelzer, Jeff Henderson (Jennifer) of Williamston, Lee Henderson (Shannon) of Easley; sisters, Bera Crone (Stanley), Jackie Blanton, Sharon Barton; brothers, John Henderson, Marshall Henderson; grandchildren, Kinsey, Kara, Ryan, Brianna, Luke, Adam and Erin Henderson.

Visitation was held Monday, February 15 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary chapel. The funeral followed at 4:00.

DON ALVERSON

PELZER—Don Lewis Alverson, 73, husband of Sandra Taylor Alverson, died Friday, February 12, 2015.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Lewis Kay and Martha Evelyn Land Alverson. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Donna Alverson Ucles (Omar) of Taylors, Sylvia Alverson Nickles (Shannon) of Williamston; son, Scott Alverson (Angie) of West Pelzer; special family friend, Bill Blakely of the home; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by sister JoAnn Brown; brother, Ray Alverson.

Visitation was on Sunday, February 14 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

The funeral was held on Monday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church. Burial followed at Washington Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is at the home.

KAREN ANDERSON

Karen Frances Williams Anderson, 60, of Williamston, died on February 6, 2016, at Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Orlando, FL.

She was born in Greenville to the late Rueben Williams and Margaret Wood and Plumer Arflin. She was a hair stylist.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Delmar Anderson.

She is survived by her two sons Steven Anderson of Williamston, Jason Anderson of Orlando, FL; two step-grand children; and three siblings, Terri Clarey, Bill and Brian Williams.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 16 at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

TARI K. TINSLEY

Tari Kay Woltz Tinsley, 60, of Piedmont, died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at her home.

Born in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Joann Stamper Woltz.

She is survived by daughter, Stephanie O’Shields of Pelzer; brother, Timothy Woltz  of Bradenton, FL; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, February 17 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer. The service will follow at 7:00.

TIMMY MAHAFFEY

Timothy Wayman Mahaffey, 59, of Williamston, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at home.

He was born on December 15, 1956 in Greenville, SC. He was a son of Tommy Mahaffey and the late Lucia Mahaffey.

He is survived by two sisters, Connie Cape of Pelzer and Ann Mahaffey of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by a son, Justin Mahaffey.

He was a four year veteran of the U.S. Navy.

A private graveside service will be held February 22 at 10 a.m. at Dolly Cooper VA Cemetery in Anderson, SC.

BOBBIE M. MACKEY

Mrs. Bobbie M. Mackey, wife of Dr. Harold J. Mackey, died Monday, February 15, 2016.

Mrs. Mackey was a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church and the musician for more than 40 years She was a retired teacher in Anderson County School District One.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter Miss  Harriett Mackey, sisters Mrs. Rosa Gillespie, Mrs. Pearl Jones, and Mrs. Dorothy Ruffin, and a brother Billy Mattison.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church. The body is at Unity Mortuary Chapel in Williamston and will be on view Friday; the wake is 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.

HUGH MARION SMITH

Hugh Marion Smith, 89, of Piedmont, died Sunday, February 14, 2016.

Born in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Alvin Thomas Smith and Ethel Marie Casey Smith.

He was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Mary B. Smith; three daughters, Beawayne Roberts, Patti Mann and Marion Payne; son, J.D. Hunnicutt; five step-children, Ann Elmer, Rose Cox, Tina Haley, Carl Black and John Black; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m. in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
