A Piedmont area resident was caught in the act of breaking into a car Sunday evening at the Powdersville WalMart. Jeffrey Shane McClain, 32,WM, 5’10″, 160 pounds, of Iler Road was burglarizing a vehicle when its owners returned from the store and discovered him in their vehicle, and raised the alarm. Anderson County deputies, who were on scene in response to a shoplifting call, responded, and after a brief foot pursuit, took McClain into custody and transported him to the Anderson County Detention Center. He was subsequently served with warrants for two other crimes in the Piedmont area.

One was for breaking and entering into a home located at 311 Ross Street, on January 9. He returned to that location on January 21, and again broke into the house. This time, he stole a firearm. He admitted to both actions in a recorded statement to police.

Another warrant was served for the breaking into of a vehicle parked at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Anderson Road in Piedmont. McClain also admitted to that offense as well. The additional offenses occurred in January.

McClain is being held on $80,000 bond.
