State Rep. Mike Gambrell of Honea Path and Williamston Town Councilman Rockey Burgess will be in a runoff on April 5 for the SC Senate District 4 seat. In voting on Tuesday, unofficial results showed Gambrell received 2,149 votes, or 46 percent of the vote, while Burgess was the second highest vote getter with 1,505 or 32 percent. Since none of the five candidates received more than fifty percent of the vote, the race will be decided in a runoff in two weeks.

Gambrell received more votes than Burgess in all three counties, however Greenwood Attorney Tripp Padgett had more than the other two in his home county and finished third in the five man race, with 661 votes, or 14 percent. Anderson resident Willie Day received 294 votes, or 6 percent while Williamston resident Mark Powell received 109 votes, or 2 percent.
