JOANNE SMITH CLINKSCALES

Joanne Smith Clinkscales, widow of Harold Sebastian Clinkscales, Sr., died Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Barnard Milton and Evelyn Gilham Smith.

She was a member of Starr Baptist Church in Starr.

She is survived by four daughters, Barbara Jean Aboualy of Piedmont, Rosalyn Price of Iva, Suzanne Hendrix of Starr, and Angela Moore of Hartwell, GA; one son, Brian Clinkscales of Iva; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Swygert of Anderson, and LeClair S. Welborn of Columbia.

Funeral service was held at Starr Baptist Church on April 8. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

The Unity Mortuary of Williamston announced the Celebratory Services for Edward Jackson was held April 12, 2016 at The Unity Mortuary in Williamston.

Family members gathered at 1 Silver Maple Way, Pelzer.

ROBERT NAUTA

Robert Alan Nauta, 73, of Anderson, husband of Linda Jane Huber Nauta died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Morristown, NJ, he was the son of the late Peter William Nauta and Edith Alva Ferguson Nauta. He was a self employed contractor.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by a son, Jeffrey Edward Kerstner of Damascus, PA; daughters, Cheryl Lynn Basile of Williamston, Renee Ann Bond of Anderson, and Jessica Lynn Yuksel of Highland Lakes, NJ; brothers, Arthur Ronald Nauta of Lancaster, Leon DeGray Nauta of Williamston, and Dale Keith Nauta of Washington, NJ; and eight grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.

MARGARET ELGIN

WILLIAMSTON – Margaret Louise Gilreath Elgin, 90, wife of the late Ivan Addison Elgin, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd Gordon and Leola Simpson Gilreath.

She is survived by children, David Elgin of Rabun Gap, GA, Velma Ray, Linda Foster, Danny Elgin, and Shelia Kelly, all of Williamston, Deborah Frankum, Carol Rutledge, Cindy Rutledge and Steve Elgin, all of Belton, Juanita Coker of Honea Path, Angie Freeman of Piedmont and Faye Myers of Greenville; thirty-eight grandchildren, seventy-seven great-grandchildren, twenty-four great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was predeceased by son, Richard Allen Elgin.

Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, April 8 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

The service was held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 9 in the funeral home chapel.

CHARLES B. WALDNER

Charles Benjamin Waldner, 41, of Piedmont, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016.

Born in Salinas, CA, he was a son of Lee Waldner and Charlene  O’Shields. He was employed with Long’s Trailer and Body, and was a member of Ebenezer Welcome Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his children, Jonathan Waldner, Kayla Waldner, Corey Waldner, Charley Waldner, Julionah Waldner, Delayna Waldner; brother, Chris Waldner; sisters, Kelley Crump Waldner, Danielle Waldner, Rachel Mayberry; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Saturday, April 9 in The Howze Mortuary Chapel.

WALTER ‘TOBE’ SMITH

The Unity Mortuary of Williamston announces Celebratory Services for Mr. Walter “Tobe” Smith were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 2208 Beaverdam Road, Williamston.

He was laid to rest at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family members gathered at 119 Mattison Drive, Williamston.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ruth Butler Smith; two sons, Walter H. Smith, Jr., of Belton and Keith B. Smith of Williamston; two daughters, Letice R. Smith, Aletha F. Smith Simpson, both of Williamston; two brothers, Elijah Traymon, Jr., Alvin Traymon of New Jersey; three sisters, Lenora Robinson of Williamston, Effie “Ethel” Smith of Washington, DC; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He ws preceded in death by his sister, Lila Mae-Smith.

BILLY CAPPS

James William “Billy” Capps, Sr., 65, of Pelzer, husband of Karen Shackelford Capps, died Monday, April 11, 2016.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late William Iler and Hortense Sherman Capps.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jimmy Capps  of Belton; daughter, Tammi Wall of Belton; sisters, Sylvia Browning, Dot Harrison and Jackie Roberts; brothers, Kent Capps and Ronnie Capps; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am to noon Thursday, April 14 at Gray Mortuary. The service will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home of Jimmy and Suzanne Capps.

SHIRLEY PATTERSON

WEST PELZER – Shirley Virginia Fountain Patterson, 76, wife of William “Bill” Charles Patterson, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Howard and Christina Turner Fountain.

In addition to her husband of the home, she is survived by daughters, Terrie S. Bell of Honea Path and Tammie S.. Rhodes of Myrtle Beach; son, Dennis (Dee) Sellers of West Pelzer; brother, Jack Fountain of Pelzer; sister, Betty Escoe of Pickens; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie S. Chandler and a brother, Gerald Fountain.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 -2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14,        at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

WAYNE EVERETT THOMPSON

Wayne Everett Thompson, 63, husband of Sylvia Golden Thompson, died Monday, April 11, 2016.

Wayne was born December 2, 1952 in Greenville to the late Everett Lee Thompson and Mary Reeves Thompson. He retired as an auto body technician with Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Wayne loved riding motorcycles and participating in poker runs.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Cory Thompson; four brothers and their wives, Donnie and Linda Thompson, Roger and Donna Thompson, Michael and Mary Thompson, and Alan and Jennifer Thompson; one sister, Kathy Sanders and husband Sam; and two granddaughters, Savannah and Ashlyn Thompson. He was predeceased by a son, Zach Thompson.

A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Bessie Road Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Robert Griswold. Family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

BETTY RUTH RICKETTS YOUNG

Betty Ruth Ricketts Young, 81, of Belton, wife of Leroy Young, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Capstone Health and Rehab of Easley.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late R.E. and Cleo Smith Ricketts.

She was a member of Union Grove Methodist Church

Surviving in addition to her husband are: brothers, Harold Ricketts and Marshall Ricketts, both of Belton; and sister, JoAnn Martin of Pelzer.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garden of Memories. The family will receive friends following the service.

JANICE K. SEWELL

Janice K. Sewell, of Liberty, died Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Born in Ashtabula, OH, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Winifred Newbold.

She retired from Union Carbide and was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Easley.

She is survived by three sons, Douglas E. Sewell of Liberty, Jeffrey K. Sewell of Piedmont, Frankie Sewell of Liberty; and two grandchildren.

There will be no funeral or visitation service.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church at a later date.

CARROLL EMERY

Carroll Eugene Emery, 80, of Anderson, died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at AnMed Health.

Born in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Clarence “Big John” and Willeane Garrett Emery.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a high school coach at Lakeside, McDuffie High, Westside High and T.L. Hanna High.

He was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, June Miller Emery; daughter, Susan Robinson of Rock Hill; son, John Carroll Emery of Gastonia; five grandchildren; sister, Nell Hiott of Greer; and brother, Doug Emery of Summerville.

Funeral service will be held  Friday at 2 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church.
