VIVIAN HOYT WRIGHT

She never knew a stranger, always smiling, hugging; the life of any party…this best describes the beautiful life of Vivian Hoyt Wright, 82, who passed away April 30, 2016. She was born March 8, 1934 in Pelzer, SC to the late Luther and Margie (Stewart) Bryant. Vivian will always be remembered by her family as a dear, sweet Christian lady who loved people. She helped head up several of the Senior Love Group activities and special events at her church. Vivian was an avid deer hunter, loved gardening and was the best mother, grandmother and friend anyone could ask for. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Vivian leaves behind to cherish her memory her sons, Billy Wright and wife, Michelle from Dallas, NC, Terry Lee Wright and wife Mary Ann from Love Valley, NC; three grandchildren, Alysia and Courtney Johnson and Taj Wright; brother, Morris D. Bryant and wife, Bonnie of Pelzer, SC and sister-in-law, Edna Bryant of Pelzer, SC.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Perry Wright Jr. and one brother, Clyde E. Bryant.

A celebration of her life was held at 4:00 PM, Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at Hardin Community Baptist Church in Dallas, NC. Reverend Clay Ledford presided. Interment followed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church cemetery.

The family received friends from 3:00-4:00 PM, Tuesday, prior to the service at the church.

ROY DAVENPORT

Roy Newton Davenport, 75, of Greenville,  husband of Joyce Ellison Davenport, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Roy Richard and Mary Herbert Davenport. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, George and Mary Dunlap Herbert.

He was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by sons, Craig Davenport of West Union and Chad Davenport of Pelzer; daughter, Krista Timmerman, MD of Greenville; brother, Charles Davenport of Belton; seven grandchildren.

A graveside service was held May 6, at Guthrie Grove Church, Pelzer.

CHARLES McCALL

Charles Lewis McCall, 62, of Pelzer, died Saturday, April 30, 2016.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Robert and Betty Jo McCall.

He attended Real Life Church.

He is survived by daughter, Stephanie McCall of Williamston; two brothers, Dale MCall of Belton, and Allen McCall of Piedmont.

Graveside service was held Friday, May 6 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

JOSEPH ‘JOE’ HENRY DAY

Joseph “Joe” Henry Day, 84, of Easley, husband of Patsy Louise Cuddy Day, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

He was born in Pickens County, to the late Warren Butler Day and Laura Gilstrap Day.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a POW for 29 months in Korea.

He retired from Duke Energy and was a member of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife; son, David Day of Pelzer; daughter, Penelope Hyder of Dacusville; sister, Lilly Sherriff of Easley; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, May 7 in Robinson Funeral Home, Easley. Burial followed in Day Family Cemetery in Easley.

PAUL EDGAR ‘EDDIE’ CANDLER, JR.

Paul Edgar “Eddie” Candler, Jr., 66, died May 1, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Kingsport, TN, he was son of Janie Candler of Simpsonville and the late Paul Candler.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Quinney Candler of Piedmont; son, David Holcombe of Greenville; daughter, Jennifer Marquiss of Gillette, WY; sister, Sharon Garrison of Simpsonville; and several grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held May 7 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

ROBERT REID

Robert Reid, 67, of Pelzer, died Friday, April 29, 2016 at his home.

Funeral service was held Friday, May 6 at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens with military honors.

REV. FRED N. COBB

Rev. Fred Norris Cobb, 97, of Williamston, husband of Addie Rollison Hampton Cobb, died Thursday, May 5, 2016.

Born in Ware Shoals, he was the son of the late Fred Norman and Carrie Wood Cobb.  He was a retired minister and U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughters, Nancy Dougherty  of Charleston and Lane Burdette of Baghdad, KY; step-daughters, Teddy Griffith of Chattanooga, TN and Vickie Burgess  of Pelzer; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, May 7, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JOHNNY MARTIN

Williamston—Johnny Dale Martin, 48, died Thursday, May 5, 2016.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of William T. “Billy” and Sylvia A. McCoy Martin. An honorary graduate of Palmetto High School, class of 1986, he was on the Dean’s List at Clemson University, where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree, class of 1992. Johnny also was an honorary graduate of Clarkson University, where he received a Master’s Degree in International Manufacturing. He was formerly employed with General Electric and was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents of the home, he is survived by daughter, Chloe Isabelle Martin of Anderson; sister, Cathy Martin Merrell (Jeff); brother, Tony Randall Martin (Kim) all of Williamston.

Visitation was held Sunday, May 8 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The funeral was Monday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial followed at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

CODY PAGE

EASLEY – Cody Lee Harrison Page, 21, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, a son of Kim Lee Page and Teresa Griffith Page, he was employed with Autech Security and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Matthew James Page of the home; a sister, Katrina Nicole Hassebroek (Brett) of Easley; maternal grandparents, Becky O’Bryant Griffith and Samuel Griffith; paternal grandparents, Roger McNeil Page and Patricia Chapman Page; a nephew, Grayson Hassebroek; and his best friend, Tyler Merck.

Memorial services were 6:00 PM Monday, May 9, at Calvary Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Shorter officiating.

The family received friends immediately following the service at the church.

Family members are at their respective homes.

MARY F. TERRY

Mary F. Terry, 73, of Piedmont, died May 7, 2016.

She was the daughter of the  late Dessie Payton and retired from Lockheed Martin.

Surviving are four children, Kenny Osborne, Kevin Faison, Katrina Crump, and Karen Sprinkle; six grandchildren; one sister, Anita Humphrey; four brothers, Ray, Larry, Gary and Tony Cox.

A private funeral service was held at The Wood Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association.
