Voters will be surprised to learn that some precincts will have only one primary on June 14 in Anderson County. “Seventeen of our precincts will have both a Democratic and Republican Primary, but the other 63 precincts will only have a Republican Primary,” said Katy Smith, Executive Director. “The primary elections are held for the parties to determine their candidates for the General Election in November, and the only contest that is on the Democratic Ballot in June, that has opposition, is County Council District 2. Therefore, voters that want to vote in the Democratic Primary must live and be registered to vote in one of those 17 precincts and live within County Council District 2.”

Signs will be posted at all 63 precincts where there is only one primary on June 14. The signs indicate that there is “No Democratic Primary” because there is no opposition for the Democratic nomination for any office for which voters in this precinct are eligible to vote.

There is no registration by party in South Carolina. Voters may vote in any primary they choose.

Signs will be placed near the entrance of the polling place so that voters are likely to see the sign as they enter the polling place and to see them prior to waiting in any line that may be present. If needed, the signs will also be used for the day of the Primary Runoff, June 28.

Four precincts that are in The Journal coverage area are among the seventeen precincts that will have both a Democratic Primary and Republican Primary. They are:
