Miss SC Pageant underway this week

Two local contestants, Rachel Wyatt of Piedmont and Brooklyn Brewster of Williamston, will represent the area in the Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen Pageants underway this week in Columbia. Wyatt is competing as Miss Clemson and will perform a Jazz Dance for talent and a platform of Enriching the Lives of Special Needs Adults. Brewster, competing as Miss Anderson County Teen, won the Talent preliminary Tuesday with a baton routine.

The event features 54 Miss contestants, 62 Teen contestants, 133 Princesses and four Princes.

The Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen pageants will continue this week with two more nights of preliminary competition on Wednesday and Thursday.

The final competition for the Miss South Carolina Teen Pageant will be held Friday, June 24.

The Final Miss South Carolina Pageant will be held beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday. It will be televised live on WACH Fox and other Sinclair stations in the state. The pageant will also be on My 40 WLOS in Greenville and Spartanburg.

Emcees for the event which will conclude Saturday include Stephanie Whittler, Miss Tennessee 2009, second runner-up to Miss America 2010 and Mark Walberg, American actor, TV personality and game show host.

Registration began last Friday and was followed by an Arrival Ceremony at the State House, rehearsals at the Township Auditorium, and special events and preliminary pageants throughout the week.

The runway will be back, surrounded by Golden Globe-type seating of tables on the floor. The Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen preliminary competitions will run concurrently. The final nights of competition will be held separately.

All contestants will have completed the Interview portion of the competition before the first preliminary on Tuesday night. Each preliminary competition will include Talent, Evening Wear/Onstage Question, and Swimsuit/Physical Fitness competitions for one-third of the Miss and Teen contestants. Each contestant competes in one category each night, and will have completed all competitions by the end of the third preliminary night.

Preliminary awards for two on-stage competition categories will be announced for the Miss and Teen contestants at the end of the each preliminary night (four winners in all each preliminary night): Talent and Evening Wear/Onstage Question for the Teens; Talent and

This year, the Teen final will be held on Friday evening. The Miss final will be held on Saturday evening.

In line with the Miss America Pageant, 16 Miss and 16 Teen semi-finalists will be announced on their respective final nights of competition.

The 16 Miss contestants will compete in swimsuit and 16 Teen contestants will compete in physical fitness, after which the field will be cut to 10 Miss and 10 Teen finalists. The final 10 contestants for the Miss will compete in talent and evening gown; the final 10 contestants for the Teen will compete in talent and evening gown.

Four Miss runners-up and four Teen runners-up will be announced, and the new Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen will be crowned on-stage.
