The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office warns residents to be aware that it has received yet another report of an IRS Scam. In this latest one, the caller convinced the victim to purchase Apple iTunes Cards and provide the card information online. The suspect kept the victim on the phone, threatening to issue warrants if the victim contacted the police or hung up. Be aware that the IRS never requires payment via prepaid money cards.

“Citizens should never give out personal or financial information to unknown callers nor purchase money cards for payment to unknown individuals,” a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said. “Bottom line….if an unknown caller requests or demands money via a prepaid card, citizens are advised to simply hang up.”
