Books open August 10 for Williamston election

The Town of Williamston general election will be held in conjunction with the National general election on Tuesday, November 8. Any person wishing to register to vote in this election must register no later than October 8.

Offices to be voted on in the town election include Mayor, Council Ward 3 and Council Ward 4. Citizens desiring to be candidates for one of the offices may file at the Williamston Municipal Center, 12 W. Main St., Williamston. Books will be open for filing at 12 p.m. on August 10 and remain open during regular business hours until 12 p.m. on August 24.

The filing fee for the office of Mayor is $100.00. The filing fee for the office of Council is $50.00.

The precincts involved in the election will be the portions of the Williamston Precinct, the Williamston Mill Precinct, and the Cedar Grove Precinct inside the municipal limits of the Town of Williamston. The polling places are: Williamston Mill Precinct – Calvary Baptist Church; Williamston Precinct – Palmetto Middle School; Cedar Grove Precinct – Calvary Baptist Church.

Vote counting will take place at Palmetto Middle School folowing the closing of polls. On Thursday, November 10, at 10 a.m. at the Williamston Municipal Center, 12 W. Main St., Williamston, the Municipal Election Commission will hold a hearing to determine the validity of ballots challenged in this election. If there is a runoff, it will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, November 22.
