South Greenville Fire Commissioner William M. “Billy” Campbell passed away Monday, Sept. 12. The South Greenville Fire Department website had the following statement posted on it:
“With sadness in our hearts we regret to inform you that Commissioner William M. “Billy” Campbell has passed away. Billy served his beloved community for 32 years as a member of the South Greenville Fire District.
Billy worked his way up through the ranks and became Chief in 1986. After retiring in 2001 as Chief of the department, Billy then was elected by our community to serve once again as a Commissioner in 2002.
Without Chief Campbell’s exceptional leadership over the years the South Greenville Fire District would not be what it is today.
Chief Campbell had a passion for his country (United States Navy Seabees), community and department that we all strive to emulate on a daily basis. We will miss you Chief, rest easy, we will take it from here!”
