The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has begun preparation activities for pending impacts anticipated by Hurricane Matthew. Current forecasts predict that Hurricane Matthew will impact South Carolina later this week. SCDOT will continue to closely monitor the forecast and adjust response plans as appropriate. SCDOT will continue daily communication with other emergency service providers.
SCDOT Headquarters – Fuel inventories at SCDOT facilities are being monitored and adjusted to ensure adequate supplies for hurricane response activities. Plans have begun to provide comfort stations for possible coastal evacuation. Disaster recovery contractors have been put on notice for possible activation. Appropriate emergency service teams have been deployed to the Emergency Management Division.
District Activities – Maintenance crews are preparing equipment and reviewing evacuation routes. Staffing plans are being finalized. Other preparation activities are being performed in accordance with their Hurricane Response Plans.
Other Modes of Transportation – At the current time, there have been no storm related impacts to the movement of freight, air transportation, South Carolina ports, or public transit.
