JOHN BENNETT, R.C. WHITT, MARY JEANETTE MARTIN, BILL ROGERS, JOAN DRYMAN LYNN, LAURIE ANN PUFPAFF

JOHN BENNETT

PELZER—John Roy Bennett, Jr., 65, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late John Roy, Sr. and Leona Garner Bennett. A U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, for sixteen years he was employed with Gerber Mills prior to working twenty-six years with Michelin North America before he retired in November of 2012. He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, John Roy Bennett, III of the home; sisters, Lisa Bennett Sherard, and brother-in-law John, of Greenville, Peggy Bennett King of Williamston; nephews, Tyler Calvin and William Bennett Sherard; and niece, Katherine Diane King.

He was predeceased by sister, Frances Dianne Bennett.

A visitation was held Monday, October 17, from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Big Creek Baptist Church. The funeral followed at 3:00 p.m. with burial at Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

The family wishes to thank Patriot Hospice Services for their support and exceptional care to John during this time.

R.C. WHITT

Roland C. “R.C.” Whitt, 73, of Antreville, husband of Fran Massey Whitt, died Saturday, October 15, 2016.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Ned C. and Mary Alice Casey Whitt. He was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church in Williamston.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Rick Whitt  of Williamston; and three grandchildren.

A visitation was held Monday, October 17 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.

MARY JEANETTE MARTIN

Mary Jeanette Martin of Pelzer, died October 12, 2016.

She was the daughter of the late Devoe Leonard and Hessie Cox.

She was wife of the late Captain Ronald A. Martin.

She is survived by sons, Scott Martin of Anderson, and Lamar Martin of Cleveland; daughter, Ann Henderson of Greenville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

BILL ROGERS

John William “Bill” Rogers, Jr., 61, of Pelzer, died Friday, October 14, 2016.

Born in Greenville, he was the only child of the late John William, Sr. and Hazel Holliday Rogers. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Pelzer Presbyterian Church.

Visitation was held Sunday, October 16, at Gray Mortuary. Funeral service was held Monday, October 17, in the mortuary chapel with burial following at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

JOAN DRYMAN LYNN

Joan Dryman Lynn, 78, of Piedmont, widow of Charles E. Lynn, died October 16, 2016 at McCall Hospice House.

She was born in Franklin, NC, to the late Ressie and William Dryman.

She retired as a Registered Nurse and was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Lené Lynn Childress and Starr Lynn Birx, both of Piedmont, and Cynthia Goodwin of McKinney, TX; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Myrtle Taylor of Picayune, MS, and Virgil Dryman and Grace Thomas, both of Greenville.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

LAURIE ANN PUFPAFF

Laurie Ann Pufpaff, 54, a nursing educator and Simpsonville resident, died Oct. 15, 2016. She was associate professor of nursing, simulation coordinator and faculty fellow at Greenville Technical College.

She volunteered at all levels with SAIL, PTA and Booster Club. Woodmont High School recently established a Laurie Pufpaff Volunteer of the Year award in her honor. In addition, she was instrumental in creating a lacrosse team for both boys and girls at Woodmont.

She is survived by her husband, David C.; a daughter, Kathryn; two sons, Matthew and Ryan; a grandson, Easton, all of South Carolina; her parents, Nancy E. and Kenneth P. Schifferle of East Amherst, N.Y.; two brothers, Steven  of East Amherst and Michael of Lockport, N.Y.

A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church, Simpsonville on Friday October 21st at 11:00am. Plans are being made for a memorial service in Buffalo, New York in November.
