EVELYN TOLLISON
Evelyn Annabelle Smith Tollison, 80, of Piedmont, widow of James G. Tollison, died Thursday, January 26, 2017.
Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd H. and Pearl Coke Smith. She was retired from Dan River and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughter, Denise Cothran of Piedmont; sons, Michael Tollison of Williamston and Danny Tollison of Piedmont; sisters, Vera Bagwell and Jan McAtee, both of Greenville; brother, Ray Smith of Anderson; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Monday, January 30, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

LINDA KNIGHT
Linda Lou Burgess Knight, 75, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at her home.
Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Ted and Myrtle Rhodes Burgess. She retired from Gerber Childrenswear and was a member of Pelzer Church of God.
Surviving are a son, Charles Robert Knight of Greenville; daughter, Melody Knight Williamson of Anderson; sisters, Carolyn Haynes and Kathy Culberson, both of Williamston, Joyce Kay of Pelzer, Teresa Staggs of Belton; brother, Herman Burgess of Williamston; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Saturday, January 27 at the Pelzer Church of God. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

JAMES BELL
James Lee Bell, 88, of Greenville, died Friday, January 27, 2017.
Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Jamed Adger and Beulah Holiday Bell.
He was twice married, first to the late Margaret Baker Bell, and then to Nell Bagwell Bell.
He is also survived by three daughters, Peggy Paul and Jean Watts, both of Greenville, and Joye Rose of Piedmont; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday, January 30 in the Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

PEGGY GRAY
Peggy Crumpton Madden Gray, 82, of Liberty, wife of Gary W. Gray, died Friday, January 27, 2017.
She was born in Pelzer, daughter of the late Feaster and Lona Bates Crumpton. She retired from ECP in Liberty and was a member of Rice’s Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, James Madden of Greenville; step-daughters, Sharon King of Liberty, June Coleman of Easley, and Tammy Coleman of Liberty; sister, Dorothy Peace of Easley; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Chester Madden.
Funeral services were held Monday in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

MARION S. GILBERT
Marion S. Gilbert, 91, of Pelzer, died Friday, January 27, 2017 at Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Sparta, NY, he was the son of the late Freeman and Elnora Gilbert, and husband to the late Harriet Gilbert.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his children, Fred, Terry, Linda, Marilyn, Ronald, and Gary; siblings, Freeman, Leslie, Bruce, Marie, and Pat; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday, January 30 at Midway Bible Church. Private burial was held at Harriet Memorial Gardens.

EUGENE CAREY, JR.
Eugene Ellis Carey, Jr., 72, of Iva, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at his home.
Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Eugene Ellis Carey, Sr., and the late Lou Nelle Dunn Carey.
He was a Vietnam veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was owner of Carey’s Texaco and Carey’s Home Maintenance.
He attended Roberts Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Wendy L. Carey of Pelzer; brother, Terrell Neal Carey, Sr. of Belton; three sisters, Cheryl Connor, Judy Cantrell, and Tina Allen, all of Anderson; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Johnnie Loskoski Carey.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 1 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors.

BARRY DEOLAND GILES
June 12, 1940 – January 15, 2017
Sanford, NC – Barry Deoland Giles, age 76, of Sanford, died Sunday, January 15, 2017.
He was born in Belton, SC, son of the late Paul Below Giles and Stacy Chapman Giles. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill Giles. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked for many years with Daniels Construction.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 12 noon at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Broadway with Chaplain Jason Buchanan officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m. Monday.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jean Wise Giles of the home; daughter, Debora Kay Giles Bradford of Sanford, NC; and son, Douglas Barry Giles of Sanford, NC; sisters, Barbara Ann King of SC, Brenda Hunter of Georgia, Betty Owens of SC, Gail Blackwell of SC; one brother, Boyd Giles of SC; and one grandson, Joseph Daniel Bradford.
The family received friends oen hour prior to the funeral service from 11 – 12 noon at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

CATHY IVESTER
Cathy Jean Holloway Ivester, 52, of Pelzer, wife of Anthony Scott Ivester, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Pauline Broome Holloway.
Surviving are sons, Robert Cooper of Williamston and Anthony Cooper of Nashville, TN; daughter, Jennifer Cooper of Walhalla; step-son, Caleb Ivester of the home; and four grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Saturday, January 28 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

GIRTRUE JACKSON
Willie Girtrue Cole Jackson, 83, of Piedmont, wife of Elihu Roscoe Jackson, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
Born in Jewel Valley, VA, she was a daughter of the late Robert E. and Madgie Wimmer Cole. She was a member of Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.
Surviving are sons, Randall Jackson of Piedmont and Dr. Gary W. Jackson of Greenville; siblings, R.C. Cole of Jolo, WV, Yuvon Mullins of Richlands, VA, Lois Houchins of Ft. Chiswell, VA; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 27 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

TERRY SMITH
Terry Douglas Smith, 62, of Piedmont, husband of Beverly Stanton Smith, died Sunday, January 29, 2017.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Lester Miller and Lois Hanks Smith. He retired from 3M.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Teresa Smith of Piedmont, Kevin Smith of Spartanburg, Steven Smith of Morton, IL; brother, Duane Smith, Sr.; sister, Jane Bryant; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Friday, February 3, at Emmanuel Full Gospel Tabernacle. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

GRACE EPPS
Grace Ruth Bowen Epps passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at her home in Williamston.
She was the wife of the late Joseph B. Epps.
Born January 17, 1925 in Pelzer, SC, she was the daughter of the late Haskell and Lillian Bell Bowen.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Randall Garrett; granddaughter, Melissa Garrett Sharff (Josh); and her grandson, Joe Garrett.
She is also survived by four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jo Epps Garrett; her sisters, Alma Meares and Joanna Chambers; and her brothers John Marvin Bowen and Little Haskell Bowen.
Grace attended High Praises Church of God, Midway Road, Williamston. Her memorial service will be held there on Thursday, February 2 at 3 p.m.
The family will receive friends after the memorial service.

WILLIAM ‘BILL’ JENNINGS WOODSON
William “Bill” Jennings Woodson, formerly of Belton, died Friday, January 27, 2017.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Marvin and Sarah Woodson.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Martin Woodson; son, Tucker Woodson; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Dr. Marvin Woodson, Jr., and Henry Woodson; sisters, Irene Revis, Mildred Snyder, and Joy Poore.
He was a member of Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church.
He was an auto mechanic teacher at the Career Center.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at Latimer Memorial United Methodist Church from 1 – 2:15 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m.
Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the church.

CLEO LOOPER
Emma Cleo Bishop Looper, 89, of Piedmont, widow of Hobert S. Looper, died Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Lillie Bishop. She was a homemaker and a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Martha Ann Duncah of Anderson, Joan Finley of Williamston, Brenda Neely of Pelzer; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 3, at Rehoboth Baptist Church.
Funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the church with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Connie Sue Long
of West Pelzer, SC

Connie Sue Long, 57, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 at McCall Hospice House. She was born in Lebanon, IN. She loved crafts, gardening and fishing.
Surviving are her husband, Rick of West Pelzer; sister, Candie Ballard of Belton; brothers, John of Belton and Dusty (Sharon) Broshar of Greenville.
She was the daughter of Sue and the late Bill Broshar.
Final resting place will be at Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster, SC.
