Roads & Bridges
Grading Crew made an emergency repair to a cross-over on Smoak Road in the Powdersville area and completed/repaired “erosion control” in our soil pile on Michelin Boulevard.
Sign crews installed missing road signs and closed Smoak Road for grading crew.
Sign crew closed (over weekend) and reopened Smoak Road for the cross-over repair; road was closed 4 days.
Asphalt binder was installed this week at two new subdivisions: Three Bridges Phase II and Enclave @ Airy Springs Phase II.
On-call crew received 2 after-hours call-outs for a total of 35 man-hours: one downed tree, and they responded to the wash-out on Smoak Road late Saturday night and returned Sunday to complete the road closure.
 Wastewater
·         The Town of Iva’s current balance is $595,456.55.
·         Performed 1 residential sewer tap inspection in the Airy Springs subdivision in Easley.
·         Met with contractor to determine tap location for 305 Ramsey Road in the Broadview subdivision.
·         Met with developer at the Winding Stream subdivision to discuss installing a privacy fence around the pump station located behind a new home. The developer will be responsible for the fence.
·         ROW crew cut several areas in Powdersville, and removed a tree on the edge of Cely Road to prevent any problems in the future.
·         Installed two cross pipes off Shiloh Road. This area has a few underground springs causing water to stand on our sewer line. These pipes should keep the water off the ROW for proper maintenance and repairs.
Animal Shelter
This week at PAWS started our Valentails adoption special.  Cats are still free and dogs are only $14.  This will run through February 14th.
We took in 122 animals (40 were surrendered by their owners, 79 were seized by animal control, 3 were strays).
We adopted out 115 animals, returned 16 to their owners, transferred 29 dogs to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in NJ, 1 died in care and we euthanized 15 (2 were owner requested for illness).
We were able to save 90% of the animals in our care.
First and second grade students from St. Joseph’s came and volunteered for a service project.  They were able to fill toys with peanut butter and our dogs thoroughly enjoyed them.
The clinic was able to spay and neuter 148 animals
