RICHARD CRAWFORD SR., ROSE WHITWORTH, JESSIE STROUD, MELVIN B. LABOONE JR., EDITH MARIE DUNCAN MELTON, COACH S. BRUCE CREEL, VERNON THURSTON

RICHARD CRAWFORD, SR.
William Richard Crawford, Sr., 79, of Belton, widower of Minnie Bell Baugh Crawford, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017.
Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Julian and Geneva Cooley Crawford. He was retired from Milliken and attended Riverside Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Gloria Gale Ashley and Janet Carol Hudson, both of Belton; sons, William Richard Crawford, Jr. of Greenville and Kenneth Barry Crawford of Easley; brothers, Ray, Charles, and Ted Crawford; sisters, Thelma Fleming and Pat Crawford; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Saturday, February 4, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary. Burial followed at Garden of Memories, Belton.

ROSE WHITWORTH
Rosemary “Rose” Krell Whitworth, 77, of Williamston, wife of Jerry Floyd Whitworth, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017.
Born in Sumter, she was the daughter of the late Hayward and Marguerite Hendrix Krell. She was retired from Greenville Probation and Parole Office and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Bobby Carson of Williamston.
The funeral service was held Saturday, February 4, at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Burial followed at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

JESSIE STROUD
Jessie “Blue Gene” Stroud, 72, of Pelzer, died Friday, February 3, 2017.
He is survived by son, Christopher Stroud of the home; grandchildren, Colton and Emily Stroud.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 4:00 pm Wednesday, February 8, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will follow at 4:00 pm in the mortuary chapel.

MELVIN B. LABOONE, JR.
Melvin B. “Mickey” LaBoone, Jr., 56, of Piedmont, husband of Lauren Dixon LaBoone, died January 29, 2017.
He was born in Greenville to the late Melvin B. LaBoone, Sr., and Charlotte Boggs LaBoone.
He attended Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Easley.
Surviving are his wife, Lauren; and children, Alexandria and Cameron.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 4 at Robinson Funeral Home in Easley.

EDITH MARIE DUNCAN MELTON
Edith Marie Duncan Melton, age 102, of Marchbanks Assisted Living, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born on May 26, 1914, in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Maude Wheeler Duncan and the late Henry Phillip Duncan. For forty-six years, Edith was the loving and devoted wife of the Late Charles Rufus Melton until his death in 1993. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Williamston. Mrs. Melton was an avid gardener and a lover of flowers.
Mrs. Melton is survived by a son, John Melton and his wife, Elizabeth, of Saluda, SC; a daughter, Iris Jane Melton, of Boston, MA; three sisters, Margaret Dean and her husband, Dub, of Williamston, SC, Lillian Schomburg of Santa Paula, CA, and Agnes Guyton of Williamston, SC.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Charles, Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by a son, Charles Phillip Melton; six sisters, Ethel Cooley, Clara Duncan, Alene West, Lucille Jamison, Barbara Kincaid, and Emma Duncan. Edith was also preceded in death by two sons, both of whom died in infancy.
A graveside service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Edith Melton was held on Monday, February 6, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Brad Bardin officiating. The family received friends at Forest Lawn following the service.

COACH S. BRUCE CREEL
Williamston – “Coach” Stanley Bruce Creel, 76, husband of Aliene Ashley Creel, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017.
Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Chester Vivian and Katie Ford Creel. He was a retired principal, teacher, and coach at Palmetto High School and former principal of Ware Shoals High School. He was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church and served as a deacon in former churches. He also served as President of SC High School League and was a Gideon.
In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by daughters, Teresa Wood of Williamston; Sherri Yarborough (Charles) of Spartanburg; and Anita Mills (Roger) of Pelzer; son, Greg Creel (Jennifer) of Williamston; brother, Jack D. Creel of LaGrange, GA; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Tommy Lee Creel and grandson, Stanley Bruce Shaw.
Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, February 6, at Whitefield Baptist Church.
The service was held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 7, at Whitefield Baptist Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

VERNON THURSTON
Vernon Thurston, 62, of Greenville, died Monday, February 6, 2017.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Haskell and Rosa Lee Massey Thurston.
He is survived by a brother, Doug Thurston of Piedmont.
There will be a private burial service.
