Anderson County Museum celebrates Youth Council

The Anderson County Museum (ACM) celebrated the achievements of the ACM Youth Council on recently with an end-of-school-year Gatsby Party. The Youth Council was organized in 2013 with a mission to plan, organize and volunteer at events their peers would be interested in attending. Allanah York from TL Hanna High School was announced at the party as the Youth Volunteer of the Year for the 2016 – 2017 school year. The ACM Youth Volunteer Council currently consists of 33 Anderson County high school students. The following schools are represented: Belton Honea Path, SC Connections Academy, TL Hanna, Westside, Crescent, Pendleton, Oakwood Christian, Wren and the Homeschool Group. These students volunteer at our front desk as a greeter, at our special events and for the American Girl Club and our Pre-school Hour.
Any Anderson County high school student can apply for the ACM Youth Council by calling the Museum at 864-260-4737. Students can also fill out a volunteer application on our website http://andersoncountymuseum.org/volunteer/ or pick up an application at the Museum’s front desk. Most Youth volunteer on Saturdays 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 1 – 4 p.m. and on Tuesdays nights from 4 – 7 p.m. Youth volunteers gave the Museum more than 540 hours in 2016 and have volunteered for 1,380+ hours since 2013.
The Anderson County Museum is located at 202 East Greenville Street, in downtown Anderson. The Fred Whitten Gallery and ACM Store hours are Tuesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Roper Research Room is open 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and by appointment. ACM is handicap accessible and admission is free. Donations are always welcome.
The Friends of the Anderson County Museum is a private 501(C) 3 non-profit organization. Gifts made to the Friends of the Anderson County Museum exclusively support Museum exhibits and programs.
