Anderson One School Board Honors Former Board Chair

During their meeting Tuesday, The Anderson School District One Board of Trustees honored long serving board member, the late Fred Alexander, with a memorial plaque placed at the entrance of the boardroom. While board chair Alexander welcomed each new staff member to the district with the phrase, “Welcome to the best school district in the state of South Carolina.” His sincerity and passion for Anderson One students, faculty and staff was witnessed by all. This phrase has been used by many and current board chair Nancy Upton is continuing that tradition.

Alexander’s served since 1990 and his contributions, among many include his long tenure of service and dedication to Anderson School District One and to public education in the state of South Carolina,

Upton said, “On behalf of Anderson School District One, its board of trustees, the faculty and staff, students and parents, I would like to say that Mr. Alexander was an amazing advocate for students and their right to an excellent public education. When describing Mr. Alexander, our board members would use words such as leading by example, well prepared, dependable, collaborative, a true public servant. Our employees use words such as caring, sincere, gracious, welcoming, a southern gentleman full of character and grace.”

“Mr. Alexander lead with efficiency, expertise, professionalism and caring that helped build Anderson One into one of the finest school districts in the state. He was well respected and a beacon in this community. His sincere care for others was truly part of the fiber of his inner being. He exhibited respect and kindness to all he encountered.”

The board recognized and honored Alexander’s efforts for creating and exemplifying the legacy phrase “Welcome to the Best School District in the state of South Carolina.”

Alexander’s wife, Wanda Alexander and some family members were present at the board meeting for the unveiling.
