EDITH GENTRY

Edith Hicks Gentry, 85, of Pelzer, wife of the late Furman Tillman Gentry, died October 26, 2017.

She was a daughter of the late Gainow and Nellie Hammond Hicks. She retired from Procter and Gamble. She was a member of Bethel Church of God Abrahamic Faith.

She is survived by daughters, Carolyn Templeton and Bonnie Impson, both of Pelzer; brother, Eddie Hicks of Liberty; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday, October 29, at Bethel Church of God Abrahamic Faith with burial at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

WANDA JOHNSON STAWHORN

Wanda Louise Johnson Strawhorn, 91, of Anderson, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Delta, PA, she was a daughter of the late Clinton Arthur Johnson and the late Caroline Q. Collins Johnson.

She is survived by a son, Mickey B. Strawhorn of Anderson; daughters, Linda S. Howard of Easley, and Sandra S. McAllister of Pelzer; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Samuel McKinnon Strawhorn.

Funeral service was held Friday in the Chapel of the McDougald Funeral Home. Entombment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

JOYCE CALDWELL

Joyce Vivian Robinson Caldwell, 81, of Pelzer, wife of Rev. Dr. Robert “Bobby” Caldwell, died Wednesday, October 26, 2017.

Born in Fountain Inn, she was a daughter of the late Robert Golden and Jenny Bell Hellams Robinson. She retired from Anderson Memorial Hospital and was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Steve Caldwell of Pelzer and Mark Caldwell of Simpsonville; sisters, Gaynelle Hicks of Williamston and Frances Jeanes of Pelzer; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, October 28, at New Hope Baptist Church in the old sanctuary. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MICAH LOOPER

Micah Keith Looper, 70, of Pendleton, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late Paul and Marie McCombs Looper. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from Clemson Downs. He was a member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Janice Melton Looper of the home; daughter, Michelle Funk of Pendleton; one grandson; three sisters, Brenda Lee of Greenville, Julia Lavern Mahoney of Bluffton, and Teresa Stevenson of Gainesville, GA.

Funeral service was held Friday at Six and Twenty Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

FRANCES J. ROYAL

Frances Josephine Royal, 81, of Williamston, died October 23, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

A memorial service was held on October 27 at The New Prospect Baptist Church in Williamston.

BAASHILA RODGERS

Baashila Sharone “Baash” Rodgers, 44, of Pelzer, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at Gwinnett Medical Center.

He was the son of Rev. Windell and Patricia Etheredge Rodgers.

Surviving in addition to his parents are: sisters, Wendi D. Rodgers of Simpsonville, and Marcia Iszard of Blythewood.

Funeral service was held Saturday, October 28 at Reedy River Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

SHEILA JEAN CRAWFORD BROWN

Sheila Jean Crawford Brown, 62, of Belton, widow of Terry Lee Brown, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late William “Bill” Ernest and Bobbie Jean Jennings Crawford.

She was employed at Rice Mill and a member of Belton Church of God.

Surviving are a son, Bobby Lee Brown of Belton; daughter, Stacy Michelle Brown of Honea Path; sisters, Debra Smith of Honea Path, Vickie Turpin of Belton, and Rhonda McCraine of Williamston; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Belton Church of God. Burial followed at Garden of Memories.

JOHN W. ERB

John William Erb, 69, of Greer, died October 26, 2017.

Born in Rochester, New York, son of the late John Ambrose and Mary Hayes Erb, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a pastor and painter.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Kober Erb of the home; two daughters, Rebekah Ivins of Greenville and Priscilla Gleason of Williamston; son, Michael Erb of Piedmont; three sisters, Mary Caravetta of Fairport, NY, Ginny Reiman of Rochester, NY, and Rita Jewell of East Rochester, NY; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Nov. 1 at The Wood Mortuary.

ARNOLD CHILDRESS

Arnold Spencer “Jake” Childress, 75, of Piedmont, died Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, he was a son of the late James Benjamin Childress, II and Margaret Tesicola Clark Childress.

He was retired from Christopher Trucks and was the owner of the second Jeep in Piedmont.

Surviving are daughters, Barbara Jean Freeman of Greenville and Stacey Regina Childress of Easley; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.

Funeral service was held Monday, October 30 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

KENNETH HARRISON MCCLAIN

Kenneth Harrison McClain, 88, of Greenville, husband of Tommie Long McClain, died Saturday, October 28, 2017 at his home.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late David Willis and Ruth Bush McClain. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War.

He retired from Bank of America and was a member of Pendleton Street Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Patti O’Connell of Greenville, Suzanne Neal of Greenville, Sidney McClain of Pelzer, and David McClain of Belton; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Monday, October 30 in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

VESTER LANIEL CHAPMAN

A memorial service for Vester Laniel Chapman, 86, was held Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Belton.

Mr. Chapman, formerly of Belton, died Friday, October 27, 2017 at Laurel Crest Assisted Living in West Columbia. Born in Pelzer on September 17, 1931, he was a son of the late Vester Chapman and Ruth Idella Martin Chapman.

He ran a private law practice from 1962 until 2016 and was a senior partner at Chapman & Yon, LLP in Anderson.

Surviving are his wife, Vivian B. Chapman; daughters, Lisa C. Robinson and Gina C. Earle; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and sister, Dr. Patsy C. Smith.
