Monday night’s West Pelzer Town Council Meeting began with the Mayor and Council recognizing the West Pelzer Fire Department for its service to the town and surrounding community. The Council awarded Chief Huff and several firefighters a plaque, acknowledging their service to the town; a service that was dramatically pointed out later in the meeting when several of the firefighters in attendance had to leave to respond to an emergency call.
Mayor Blake Sanders called the department a huge partner in the town’s well being, pointing out the many roles they play in serving the town, such as traffic control and assistance during public events. “We are lucky to have one of the country’s finest fire departments. They are a huge asset to us and we are grateful for all that they do.”
Jon McClain was honored for his ten years of service, while Lee Blackwell and Brian Bell were both recognized for twenty years of service. Justin Emery was honored as the Most Improved Firefighter of the past year, while Jordan Smith was honored for the most runs for the year, as well as being named Firefighter of the Year. Junior Firefighter of the Year is Seth Blackwell.
Peggy Cleveland, Chris Karr and Todd Wright all received Appreciation Awards for their support of the Department.
