JANE ROGERS

WILLIAMSTON – Barbara Jane Anderson Rogers, 83, widow of James C. “Jimmy” Rogers, died Saturday, December 30, 2017.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Arthur and Estelle Church Anderson.  Mrs. Rogers was a retired teacher from Anderson School District One and a member of Williamston First Baptist Church where she formerly served as pianist and organist.

Survivors include daughter, Carol Rogers Phillips; son, Lee Rogers (Sylvia), both of Williamston; and grandchildren, Elizabeth Rogers Williams (Tucker) of Huntersville, NC, Jordan Rogers, Grace Rogers, Noah Phillips, Windsor Phillips, of Williamston.

She was predeceased by her son, Richard Rogers.

Visitation was from 1:30-3:00 Wednesday January 3, at Williamston First Baptist Church followed by a memorial service at 3:00.

JIMMY HARRISON

James “Jimmy” Michael Harrison, 67, of Pelzer, husband of Jo Ann Roberts Harrison, died Friday, December 29, 2017.

Born in Pelzer, he was the son of the late James Melvin Harrison and Melba Saxon Harrison King. A former paramedic, salesman, and Wren High School employee, he was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

A memorial service was  held Sunday, December 31, in the chapel at Gray Mortuary.

MARY BRUCE

Mary Ruth Christopher Bruce, 71, of Pelzer, wife of the late James Robert Bruce, died Monday, December 25, 2017.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late James Bennett and Ruthie Norris Christopher. She was retired from Cytec and was a member of Pelzer First Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons, Greg Bruce of Pelzer, Doug Bruce  of Piedmont; brothers, Jim Christopher of Simpsonville, Benny Christopher of Simpsonville, Stephen Christopher  of Woodruff; sisters, Martha Bagwell  of Pelzer, Lessie Austin of Pelzer, Becky Milford of Williamston; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Friday, December 29 at Pelzer First Baptist Church. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

TONY RODGERS

Tony Harold Rodgers, 66, of Pelzer, husband of the late Patricia Kay Belk Rodgers, died Monday, December 25, 2017.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Jewel Pittman Rodgers of Piedmont, and of the late James Harold Rodgers. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was retired from the Greenville County Sherriff’s Department, was a board member for the Pelzer Rescue Squad, and was a member of Grove Station Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include, daughters, Samantha K Burgess of Greenwood, IN, Sharon Ann Smith Vinson  of Pelzer; siblings, Steve Rodgers of Piedmont, Jodi Penosky of Gainesville, GA, Terri Rodgers of Travelers Rest; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Saturday, December 30 at Grove Station Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

ANNIE RHODES

Annie Bell Rhodes, of Piedmont, died Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Mac Duff and Ada Martin Rhodes. She was a homemaker and a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by sister, Gladys Rhodes Banks of Piedmont.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, December 27, at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.

NAN SHUBERT

Nan Sue Cooley Shubert, 87, of Honea Path, widow of the late Avis “Al” Landon Shubert, died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at NHC-Anderson.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late James E. and Vennie Cothran Cooley. She was a member of Honea Path First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Pat Ashley of Honea Path; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Saturday, December 30 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Eastview Cemetery.

DEBBIE JEAN GOSSETT FLEMING

Debbie Jean Gossett Fleming, 69, of Belton, wife of Jerry Randolph Fleming, died Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Belton, she was the daughter of the late Wilton Newell and Annie Ruth Williamson Gossett.

She retired from BB&T and was a member of Belton First Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are: son, Jarred L. Fleming of Powdersville; daughter, Shannon Fleming Thomas of Belton; sister, Diane Gossett Rowland of Belton; and six grandchildren.

Memorial service was held at Belton First Baptist Church.

BETTY ALEWINE

Betty Jean Green Alewine, 75, of Belton, wife of Terry Eugene Alewine, died Sunday, December 31, 2017 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late James B. and Mary Burdette Green.

She was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and was a Registered Nurse.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four daughters, Denise Bowen of Anderson, Debbie Fullbright of Anderson, Bebe Vaughn of Donalds, and Terri Opal Ivester of Anderson; brother, Jimmy Green of Williamston; sister, Judy Dunn of Belton; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 2 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Private burial was held.

GARY ‘PETEY’ COOPER

Gary Virgil “Petey” Cooper, of Piedmont,  husband of Bobbie Lesley Cooper, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at his home.

Born in Greenville County, a son of the late Virgil W. Cooper and the late Clara Gibson Cooper, he was a former supervisor at Kemet Electronics and was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Gary Keith Cooper of Alameda, CA; daughter, Cindy Cooper Johnson of Piedmont; brothers, Richard Cooper and Vernon Cooper of Piedmont, and Steve Cooper of Easley; sisters, Audrey Cooper Porter and Priscilla Cooper Owens, both of Piedmont; and one granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Saturday, December 30 at the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.

Burial followed at Graceland Cemetery West.

LONNIE WAYNE CHASTEEN

Lonnie Wayne Chasteen, 65, of Mauldin, died December 14, 2017.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Turner Chasteen; sons, Paul J. Chasteen, Clint T. Chasteen; daughter, Angela A. Brown; sister, Cynthia Culbreth; and his father, James O. Chasteen.

He was predeceased by his mother, Helen Holcombe Chasteen.

He grew up in Piedmont, retired from the plastics manufacturing industry.

A gathering for family and friends took place on Dec. 30 in Greenville.

KATHY MCCUEN

Kathy Woodson McCuen, 62, of Honea Path, wife of the late Sonny McCuen, died Thursday, December 21, 2017.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late J.D. and Imagene Bagwell Woodson. She retired from Cryovac and attended Washington Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Travis McCuen of the home, Tonya Mitchell of Honea Path; brothers, Earl and Eddie Woodson; sisters, Nancy Kernell, Betty Smith; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, December 26 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

CHARLES G. CREAMER

Charles Guyton Creamer, 88, of Anderson, widower of Dorothy “Dot” Hawkins Creamer, died Tuesday, December 19, 2017.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late Clarence J. and Mary Elizabeth Creamer.

He was the last surviving member of his family.

He was a U.S. Military Veteran and was owner of Creamer Body Shop in Belton.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Williamston.

Surviving are daughters, Karon Creamer Dukes of Anderson and Sharon Creamer Hall; and one granddaughter, both of Williamston.

Funeral service was held December 22 at Williamston First Baptist Church.

A graveside service followed at Long Branch Church family cemetery, Hwy. 413, Belton.

Memorials may be made to Williamston First Baptist Church.

J. PARKER NALLEY

Joseph Parker Nalley, 92, of Anderson, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Frank Edwin Nalley and Gertrude Parker Nalley Gilreath.

He was A World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, retired from Guy Motors and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia P. Nalley of the home; four children, Joe Nalley of Williamston, Ann Snipes, Jim “Bebo” Nalley, and Amy Simmons, all of Anderson; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Chapman Frasso of Tierra Verde, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 4 at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel. burial will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemtery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. The family is at the residence.
