GREGG CLANTON

WILLIAMSTON – Gregg Lee Clanton, 55, husband of Anna Layne Clanton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 16, 2018, after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer.

Born in Hartsville, SC, he was a son of the late Harry William, Sr. and Margie Grantham Clanton. He was president of ISE America, where he dedicated twenty-five years of loyal service, and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and deacon.

Gregg was a loving and devoted husband, father and friend to all who knew him. His faith in God and Christian walk were truly admirable.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Julia Layne and Nicole LeeAnn Clanton; brother, Harry William Clanton, Jr. (Laurie) of Columbia; nephew, William Wyman Clanton (Lea Butler) of Atlanta, along with their children, Charlotte and Preston Clanton; his devoted nieces, Anna Michelle, Haleigh Alexa, and Kimmi Mikkel Layne. He is also survived by a loving nephew, Philip Layne and loving niece, Ariail Layne; great-nephew, Tristan Wayne Barnett and great-niece, Riley Ann Saylors.

Visitation was Tuesday, February 20, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the family home, 207 Waterfront Drive, Williamston.

Services were held at Calvary Baptist Church of Williamston, Wednesday, February 21, at 11:00 a.m. Following was a family procession to Mt. Elon Baptist Church in Lydia, SC for burial in the family plot.

LYNNE ELLIS

WILLIAMSTON – Linda “Lynne” Compton Ellis, 74, wife of the late Daniel Moore Ellis, Sr., passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late J.D. and Ollie Rouda Compton. She retired from Microfiber and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by son, Andy Ellis (Beth) of Williamston; brother, Buddy Compton of Anderson; sister, Patricia Morton of Anderson; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by son, Daniel Ellis, Jr.; grandson, Daniel M. Ellis, III.

Visitation was from 12:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday, February 17, at Calvary Baptist Church. The service followed at 2:00 pm at the church. Entombment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

VERA MAE GIBSON

Vera Mae Gibson, 82, of Greenville, widow of Willie Edward Gibson, Jr., died Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Payne and Vinnie Lou Bowers Bond.

She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Mahon of Piedmont; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Friday, February 16 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

JANE BRYANT

Jane Elaine Smith Bryant, 70, of Pelzer, died Saturday, February 17, 2018.

Born in Chester, she was a daughter of the late Lester Miller and Lois Hanks Smith. She retired from J.P. Stevens.

She is survived by children, Travis Tompkins of Anderson, Kristy Nicio of Pelzer, Nicholas Bryant of Thorton, CO; brother, Duane Smith, Sr. of Pelzer; and five grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held.

J.C. DRIVER

J.C. Driver, 83, of Belton, husband of Judy Elaine Fields Driver, died Thursday, February 15, 2018.

Born in Belton, he was a son of the late John Jackson and Maybelle Landers Driver. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he retired from Duke Power and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Dale Driver of Belton; three grandsons; one great-grandson; and sister, Mildred Pruitt of Honea Path.

Funeral service was held Sunday, February 18 in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Garden of Memories with military honors.

TERRY DALE SMITH

Terry Dale Smith, 71, of Williamston, died Friday, February 16, 2018.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Henry Carlton and Helen Frances Singleton Smith.

He served in the National Guard and retired from the House of Fabrics in Mauldin. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria Jean Clark Smith; two sons, Kevin Smith and Sean Smith, both of Williamston; and seven grandchildren.

MARJOUIES P. PRICE

Marjouies P. Price, 81, of Anderson, died Thursday, February 15, 2018.

Born in Toccoa, GA, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Spencer Power and the late Grace Irene Mealor Powers.

She and her late husband Jimmy Roy Price were the owner/operators of Price’s Meat Processing.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Price of Fountain Inn and John Price of Anderson; three daughters, Bonnie Price Moore of Antreville, Jimmie Rhonda Gibbs of Pelzer, and Nickie Renee Williams of Lewisburg, TN; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 18 at Middleton Road Baptist Church in Anderson. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

EVELYN B. MCALISTER

Evelyn Irene Brown McAlister, 86, of Anderson, widow of Charles Edward McAlister, died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Comer, GA, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Lula Tucker Brown.

She retired from Anderson Armored Car Service and was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Mike McAlister of  Anderson, Steve McAlister of Piedmont, and Phillip Kevin McAlister of Anderson; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Reba Brown Brock of Anderson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

JAMIE SWEET

James Allen “Jamie” Sweet, 26, of Pelzer, died Saturday, February 17, 2018.

Born in Spokane, WA, he was a son of Kenneth Dale Sweet, Sr., of Belton and Jeannie Lynn Plotzki of Liberty. He worked for Star Builders.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his six-year-old daughter, Jessa A. Sweet of Pelzer; twin brother, Jesse Dale Sweet of Pelzer; brothers, Matt Dylan Sweet of Pelzer, Kenneth Dale Sweet, Jr. of Williamston; and grandparents, Jean Long, Leonard and Patty Plotzki, all of Spokane, WA.

Visitation will be held Saturday, February 24, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the Education and Care Fund for his daughter, Jessa A. Sweet, through any Wells Fargo location.

The family is at the home of his brother, Matt Sweet, 105 Osteen Hill Road, Pelzer 29669.

DELFINA BOSWELL

Delfina Quinata Taitague Boswell, 81, of Piedmont, died Friday, February 16, 2018.

Born in Umatac, Guam, she was the daughter of the late Vincente Taitague and Felicita Quinata and the wife of the late James L. Boswell.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Altamirano; sons, Gerald, James, John, Charles, Kevin, and Patrick; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 22 at Bessie Road Baptist Church. Family will receive friends prior to the service at the church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Grove Station Baptist Church Cemetery.

NELLIE LIGON

Nellie Rochester Ligon, 93, of Piedmont, died Friday, February 16, 2018. She was the widow of James N. Ligon.

She was born in Anderson County and was the daughter of Raymond Rochester and Iona Long Rochester.

She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughters, Joyce L. Campbell, Shirley J. McDavid and Betty J. Thomas; two sons, Randolph Ligon and Jerry Ligon.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
