On Thursday, March 8th, the Anderson County Registration and Elections Office will host their first annual Candidates Academy 2018. The academy provides an opportunity for members of the community interested in running for office, serving as a candidate representative, or serving as poll watcher to receive education on the process of Voter Registration, Absentee Voting, Polling Place Etiquette, and the Election Process.
The goal of the academy is to inform, educate, and foster positive relationships between potential candidates, poll watchers, candidate representatives and our Office. Attendees will gain an understanding of the basic operation of the Registration and Elections Office and develop an awareness and appreciation of the basic issues, challenges, and practices faced by candidates when navigating through the framework of elections.
The Candidates Academy is a two hour training consisting of thirty minute sessions covering four divisions within the Registration and Elections Office. These sessions are taught by the Registration and Elections Office staff who are leaders in their respective areas. Participants are exposed to the basic issues, requirements, and practices associated with each area to include registering voters, absentee voting, polling place do’s and don’ts, election workers, and conducting elections. There will also be literature and displays.
The goal of the Candidates Academy is to educate participants about the role the Registration and Elections Office plays in the Election Process, as well as their own. We want them to know not only what we do, but why and how we do it and to leave the session more knowledgeable of the role they play in making Elections successful. The Academy is on March 8, 2018, so sign up today by picking up a registration form around the county, emailing us at acvote@andersoncountysc.org or downloading and filling out a registration form at https://www.andersoncountysc.org/Departments/Registration-Elections/Candidates or calling (864) 260-4035.
Space is limited and is based on a first-come, first serve basis. The maximum is 100 seating capacity for the Academy. The price for attending is FREE.
