MOLLIE WHITE

PELZER – Mollie Frances Jones White, 90, wife of the late William Stanley “Bill” White, Sr., passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018.

Born in Oklahoma City, OK, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Othello Martha Pack Jones. She retired from Cryovac Inc. and was a member of Guthrie Grove Church of God of Abrahamic Faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise B. Elwell of Greer; and son, William S. White, Jr. (Leanne) of Piedmont.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by daughter, Robin Lee White; brother, Robert Loie Jones; and sister, Emmie Lee Chandler.

Visitation was Friday, March 16, from 11:00 a.m. to noon at Guthrie Grove Church of God of Abrahamic Faith. The service followed at noon, with burial in the church cemetery.

‘MR. PETE’ CLAIR CELY ELROD

“Mr. Pete” Clair Cely Elrod, 92, of Powdersville, widower of Shirley E. Elrod, died Thursday, March 15, 2018.

Born in Powdersville, he was the son of the late William Maxwell and Connie Cely Elrod.

He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and was the owner of Elrod’s Dairy Farm.

He is survived by a son, Kay Cely Elrod; three daughters, Sue Hooper, Jean Martin, and Penny Evans; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday, March 18 at Bethesda United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MARIAN SIMS

PELZER – Marian Marie Davis Sims, 90, widow of William Henry Sims, died Friday, March 16, 2018.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late James Arthur, Sr. and Marie Alverson Davis.  She retired from Belk and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Deborah Martin and Becky Cassell; son, Keith Sims; sister, Ruth Wilson; grandchildren, Jeff Martin, Joey Martin and Ashley Leitherer; four great-grandchildren; and special caregivers, Tawanda Henderson, Kathy Doolittle and Shannon Young.

A celebration of life service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at New Hope Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.

The family received friends in the church social hall following the committal service.

VIRGINIA RENTZ

WILLIAMSTON – Sarah Virginia Rentz, 83, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018.

Born in Williamston, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Clyde Rentz, Sr. and Mary Herbert Attaway Rentz. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She is survived by brothers, A. Watson Rentz of Williamston and Dr. William D. Rentz of Salisbury, NC.

She was predeceased by brothers, Jesse C. Rentz, Jr. and George H. Rentz.

The service was held at 2:00 pm Sunday, March 18, at Gray Mortuary chapel, Pelzer. Burial followed at Williamston Cemetery.

BENJAMIN F. ROBINSON

Deacon Benjamin Franklin Robinson, 66, of Greenville, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital.

He was a son of James Franklin and Esther Morris Robinson.

He was a member of Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his parents are, his wife, Donna Voorhees Robinson of the home; three sons, Jermaine Robinson of Moore, Justin Robinson of Greer, and Phillip Robinson of Summerville; two sisters, Gevonia Robinson of Greenville and Rosa Marie Gray of Travelers Rest; three brothers, Jerome Robinson of Greenville, Ronald Robinson of Simpsonville, and Donald Robinson of Piedmont.

Funeral service was held Saturday, March 17 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Rocky Mount Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

RUTH HARTSOCK

Mallie Ruth Burton Knight Hartsock, 87, of Fountain Inn, wife of the late Roger Hartsock, died Saturday, March 17, 2018.

She was twice married, first to the late LeRoy Knight.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Aaron and Mallie Sanders Burton. She retired as the owner and operator of R&R Draperies.

She is survived by daughter, Carole Jean Knight Smith; sons, Stephen Lee Knight, Stanley Bruce Knight; brother, Franklin D. Burton; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Entombment followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

DANNY KELLY

William Daniel “Danny” Kelly, 73, of Pelzer, died Saturday, March 17, 2018.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Abner Fester and Phedonia Jordan Kelly. He was a member of Zion Assembly Church of God.

He is survived by brother, Tim Kelly of Piedmont.

No service is planned at this time.
