ROY A. STEPHENS

Roy A. Stephens, 83, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Brookdale of Anderson.

Born March 26, 1935 in Anderson, SC, he was a son to the late Clyde Stephens and the late Mable Thomas Stephens. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, a sister and a niece.

Roy retired from Fiberglas after 37 years of service as a welder. He was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sims Stephens; son, Thomas Stephens (Janice); daughter, Sara Ann Martin (Mike); stepson, Teddy Sims (Georgia); stepdaughter, Terry Sims Starnes (Tommy); brother, Joe Stephens (Linda); three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his family and caregiver, Terry Starnes.

The family received friends from 10am-11 am Saturday, July 14, 2018 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service followed in the chapel at 11:15 am with Rev. Bob Clardy officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family was at their respective homes.

Flowers were accepted.

VICKIE DAVIS

PELZER – Vickie Lynn Davis, 71, wife of James Robert Davis, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018.

Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Sara Jane Chapman Davis. She was employed with Belk in the Anderson Mall and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Robert Davis (Belinda) of Pelzer, Todd Davis (Kathy) of Williamston and Brian Davis (Lisa) of Pelzer; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was from 10:00 to 11:00 am Monday, July 16, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed at 11:00 am in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

LESTER ‘RABBIT’ DICKARD

Lester “Rabbit” Dickard, 66, of Easley, died Sunday, July 15, 2018 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Earl and Evelyn Boggs Dickard.

He was a superintendent with Harper Corporation.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Dickard; son, Jason Dickard of Pickens; daughter, Angela Lee Hammonds of Easley; five grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Floyd of Powdersville, Esther Butler of Greenville, and Sara Smith of Powdersville.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 17 in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. Entombment followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens, Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum.

LEWIS EARL WEATHERS

Lewis Earl Weathers, 70, of Piedmont, husband of Patricia Raiden Weathers, died Saturday, July 7, 2018.

Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Lewis Weathers and Lincie Cody Weathers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Weathers Lynch; sons, Paul R. Weathers, John Earl Weathers, Paul E. Weathers; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Weathers; and sister, Helen Alexander.

Funeral service was held Friday, July 13 at Graceland West Cemetery.

ROSA LEE DAWKINS

Rosa Lee Golden Dawkins, 75, of Greenville, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at her home.

She was daughter of the late John Wesley Golden, Jr., and Clara Dogan Golden.

Surviving are one son, Charles Dawkins, Jr., of Greenville; four sisters, Glorice Golden Pruitt of Greenville, Bobbie Jean Young of Piedmont, Doris Lewis of Virginia, and Shirley Garrett of Greenville; brother, Matthew Golden of Belton; and two grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, July 14 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary. Burial followed in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Princeton.

MARION BASSE

Marion Rita Gros Basse, 86, of Williamston, widow of Gerard Landry Basse, died Friday, July 13, 2018.

Born in Barataria, LA, she was a daughter of the late Clement and Efrazia Belsome Gros.  She was a member of Lafitte Assembly of God Church in Lafitte, LA.

She is survived by her daughters, Ilene Basse Fernandez Boudreaux of Williamston and Janice Basse Gaskill of Powdersville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the last member of her immediate family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, July 21, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 W. Bank Exp., Marrero, LA 70072.

The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home. Entombment will be at St.Pius X Cemetery in Crown Point, LA.

BETTY WALDROP

Betty Waldrop, 77, of Powdersville, died Thursday, July 12, 2018 at her home.

She was born in Piedmont to the late Otis and Bessie Patterson.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony Waldrop of Powdersville; one son, Michael Hammond of Atlanta, GA; two daughters, Rhonda Clyde of Pelzer, and Deena Waldrop of Piedmont; one granddaughter; two sisters, Sunny Posey and Faye Lollis, both of Easley.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 17 at The Graceland Mortuary Chapel.

WILLIAM BARTLEY HARRIS

William “Willie” Bartley Harris, of Pelzer, South Carolina, born on July 24, 1931, passed away at age 86 on July 6, 2018. He was loved by all and we will miss his laughter.

William served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 in the Korean War and in the Air Force from 1953 to 1970. He also worked as a postal carrier and in Bomb Disposal.

William was married to Linda Harris. He is survived by his sons, Evan Anthony Harris, Noel Vincent Harris, and Randy Norris; daughters, Debra Liane Ellison, Connie Ruth Norris; Donna Marie Norris Barbre; (deceased); brother, Roy Harris; sister, Willette Harris; and grandchildren, Ciera Pruitt, Randall Scott Norris, James Julian Norris, Juliana Harris, Alex Harris and Johnny Ray Davis; Jason Henderson (deceased).

A memorial service was held Sunday, July 15 at West Pelzer Baptist Church, 29 Main Street, West Pelzer.

BILLY RUMSEY

William Walker Rumsey, 59, of Honea Path, husband of Tina Marie Bertilacci Rumsey, died Monday, July 9, 2018 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of Mary Evelyn Davis Rumsey and the late Claude Mack Rumsey. He was a maintenance mechanic, formerly employed by Regional Utility Services of Spartanburg, and Duke Energy’s Lee Steam Station.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two sons, Andrew Michael Rumsey of Honea Path and Adam Walker Rumsey of Georgia; one stepson, Jared Michael Johnson of Williamston; one sister, Tammy Palmer of Townville; and two grandsons.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21 at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel.

THOMAS ED ‘MAC’ MCCOLLUM

Thomas Ed “Mac” McCollum, 90, of Piedmont, husband of Sara Patterson McCollum, died Monday, July 9, 2018.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Thomas Ed and Flora Tabors McCollum.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of La France First Baptist Church.

He was employed with Spartan Express.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one granddaughter; and two sisters, Bobbie Welsh of Anderson and Sara Hobbs of Kansas City, MO.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 19 from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the Downtown chapel. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Serenity Mausoleum.

EDMUND M. DIAZ, III

Edmund M. Diaz, III, 87, of Greenville, died July 14, 2018. Born in Oradell, NJ, he was the son of the late Alice Fitchett and Edmund M. Diaz, Jr.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was owner and operator of Sylvan Learning Centers in Hickory and Morganton, NC.

He was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Carol Files Diaz of Greenville; daughter, Michelle Diaz-Kotti of Duncan; two sons, Edmund M. Diaz IV of Garland, TX; John Diaz of Raleigh, NC; step-daughter, Melissa DeCaro Coles of Piedmont; step-son, Jeff DeCaro; and four step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at John Knox Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Friday. The family will receive guests prior to the service at 10 a.m. and at a reception following the service. Burial will be at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemtery in Anderson at a future date.
