CINDY WEISER, BETTY SUE GLASBY, RUTH ELLISON ELROD, DAISY FENNELL, THOMAS COOLEY, MITCH UPTON

CINDY WEISER

NORTH CHESTERFIELD – Cindy Leigh Griffin Weiser, 40, formerly of Honea Path, died Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of Charles Wayne Griffin. She was a Baptist.

In addition to her father of the home, she is survived by daughter, Erica Bailey Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Rhonda West (David) of Halton, TX; brother, Christopher Griffin (Megan) of Walterboro, SC; step-sisters, Kimberly Childers (David) of Walterboro, SC and Angela Miller (Jason) of Gable, SC; a grandson on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by grandmother, Elinor P. Griffin.

Visitation was from 4:45 to 5:45 pm Monday, September 3, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed at 6:00 pm in the mortuary chapel.

BETTY SUE GLASBY

WILLIAMSTON – Betty Sue Stone Glasby, 86, widow of Robert “Bob” Leo Glasby to whom she was married for 66 years, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2018.

Born in Williamston, she was a daughter of the late William and Annie Smith Stone.  She was retired from Williamston Town Hall and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, William R. Glasby of Williamston; sister, Margaret Ladd of Williamston; grandchildren, Ashley and John Glasby; and great-grandchildren, Riley and Winry Glasby and Ryder Alewine.

She was predeceased by a sister, Louise S. Anderson.

A graveside service was held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, at Greenville Memorial Gardens with visitation following the service.

The family was at the home of John Glasby of Williamston.

RUTH ELLISON ELROD

Ruth Idella Ellison Elrod, 97, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Adger and Leila Ellison. She was the wife of J. Ansel Elrod for 65 years until his death in 2011. She was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church, where she attended the Willing Workers Sunday School Class as long as her health permitted.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Leila E. Cathey and husband, Bob Cathey of Anderson; grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nannie”, Lorie C. Truhn, Mandy C. Anderson, Daniel Cathey and his wife, Autumn, all of Anderson; granddaughter-in-law, Sara S. Cathey of Mount Pleasant; six great-grandchildren, Rivers and Brooklyn Cathey, McKinley and Reece Anderson, all of Anderson, Claire and Mae Cathey of Mount Pleasant; two sisters, Leona E. Tyner and Edna E. Keaton of Anderson. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews including Beth Holland and Marsha Perrotte and their families, who affectionately called her “Nannie Ruth”. She is also survived by devoted friend and caregiver, Tammy B. Holadia and her family and caregiver, Marilyn Brown.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Rob C. Cathey; her sister, Ruby E. Settle; and three brothers, Monroe, Carl, and Earl Ellison.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Delano McMinn and Rev. Dalton Fowler. Burial followed at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Loudermilk and his staff for their many years of care.

DAISY FENNELL

Daisy Johnson Saxon Fennell, 93, of Anderson, widow of Rudolph Myers Fennell, died Thursday, August 30, 2018 at her home.

Born in Pelzer, she was the daughter of the late James Richard and Loner Belt Johnson. She retired from the Kendall Co., and was a member of Pelzer United Methodist Church.

Survivors include son, Sonny Saxon of Anderson; step-children, Danny Fennell and Terri Campbell; 15 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, September 1, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.  Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

THOMAS COOLEY

Thomas Michael Cooley, 68, of Piedmont, husband of the late Sandra Elaine Saylers Cooley, died Thursday, August 30, 2018.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late L.J. and Carrie Virginia Garner Cooley. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Michelin Tire Company.

He is survived by sons, Thomas Michael Cooley, II and Benjamin Robert Cooley, both of Piedmont; brother, Stanley B. Cooley of Belton; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with Military Honors. Family will receive friends following the service.

MITCH UPTON

Visitation for Mitch Upton, will be held on Thursday, September 6th from 6-8 p.m. at Sullivan-King Funeral Home, 3205 Hwy. 81, Anderson.

A Celebration Service will be held Friday, September 7th at 1 p.m. at Christ Church, 3120 Hwy. 81 in Anderson.

Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive, Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Benevolence Fund in memory of Mitch Upton.
