Julia Ashley Barnes is seeking the Anderson School District Two Board of Trustees seat for Area 3. All voters in School District 2 (Belton, Honea Path, and Wright School areas) may vote for her on November 6.
“My entire career has been devoted to public education with many of those years serving our local school district,” Barnes said. “I have served on the Board in the past and have been asked by several people to serve once again. I know how much we spend in taxes in our district, and so do you. We know that we deserve to have a better return on our investment. The decline in student scores and the increases in discipline problems are a concern for many in our district.”
Barnes added, “Our students are scoring LAST of all Anderson County school districts! I find this appalling. Students who bring a gun into our schools don’t need a counseling session – they need to be expelled. Students need to put away cell phones and Chromebooks and start studying.”
Barnes said teacher morale is tanking, and experienced teachers are leaving the district in record numbers.
“We need change, and we need change now. Our parents and our taxpayers deserve to be heard. If you select me to serve on the school board, I will respond to your calls and concerns with fairness and efficiency.”
Barnes not only retired from the school system, but has a doctorate in education, teaches graduate level education courses, and supervises student teachers for Converse College.
“I can assure you that I can help,” she said. “I am asking for your vote on Tuesday, November 6th, to help me serve you on the District Two school board. Please ask your family and friends to vote for me so that we can start making changes.”
