Houston candidate for Anderson County Board of Education

Roderick Houston is running for the Anderson County Board of Education for Area 3. He is a product of Anderson County School District One and a graduate of Palmetto High School. Houston is also a graduate of Lander University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with focus in public relations.  At Lander, he completed the Lander Presidential Leadership Program and was on the Presidential Advisory Team. Houston also earned a Masters of Education degree from Northeastern University. He is currently employed as a Coordinator of Tutoring and Academic Counselor for Lander University’s Student Support Services where he works with first generation college students, low income students, and disabled students. He is also employed as a Library Assistant for Anderson University, a special needs companion with Carolina Helpers, and an events coordinator for the Town of Fountain Inn.

Houston is a lifelong resident of Williamston, and has a history of service to this community. He is currently a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Masonic Lodge, and 100 Black Men of the Upstate. He was recently honored as a 2017 recipient of Anderson Independent Mail’s “20 under 40” Award.  He is a member of Mount Able Baptist Church and frequently volunteers in local community service and faith-based organizations.

Houston says that he is seeking this seat to further serve his community.  “I believe individuals have the power to make a difference in the world and that begins here in our own community. I want to work with students, teachers, administrators, and the community as a whole to build a better educational system in Anderson County.” “Let’s work together for the betterment of the children!”
