Hagood, Burgess keep seats on Williamston Town Council

Both Williamston Town Council incumbents will retain their seats on council, each receiving more than the 50 percent plus one required votes. Tony Hagood will keep his Ward 1 seat receiving 286 out of a total of 548 votes cast in the race. His nearest challenger, Bonnie McCullough received 86 votes. Rockey Burgess will keep his Ward 2 seat, receiving 261 of the 415 votes cast for Ward 2. All three were running as write-in candidates.

Pictured Above Counting votes – Due to the race being open to write-ins, a large number of names were written in on the paper ballots, resulting in a long vote count which finished up at approximately 9:22 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Some of the favorite write-ins were: Greg Cole, Mark Roberts, Ernesto Zapata, Al Baskin, Michelle Obama, Austin Stone and Donald Larry Creamer Sr. Approximately 50 other names were written in receiving at least one vote. The Devil and Donald Trump each received one vote.
