Palmetto Business Association members plan for upcoming year

Members of the Palmetto Business Association met Tuesday at the Williamston Municipal Center where they discussed plans for the upcoming year. Items discussed included providing a digital copy of the membership billing form and a way to make online payments. The group also discussed how to build value into the membership fee. Some of the items discussed included possibly sponsoring a Mill Town Players production and inviting all members and local businesses to attend on sponsor night and holding a PBA meeting at and touring City Scape Winery.
Annual PBA events including the Clay Shoot Tournament, Easter Egg Hunt and Golf Tournament and the Christmas banquet were briefly talked about. Upcoming events include a Toast and Topics meeting March 19 and the PBA Easter Egg Hunt on April 6.
Paula Payton announced that the Town of West Pelzer plans to sponsor a local artist art gallery at Town Hall.
Envision Williamston Executive Director Sonya Crandall announced that that the Main Street Challenge has been reopened offering up to $10,000 for a new, existing or expanding business startup in Williamston. Information is available on the Envision Williamston website, she said.
Crandall also announced that a new mural titled “A new day on the trail” has been painted on the side of the old water treatment plan. It can be seen from the Mineral Spring Trail and West Main St. West Pelzer artist Andy Gambrell recently finished the project which was sponsored as part of Envision Williamston Downtown Acceleration Program.
She also announced that the town is applying for a new grant that focuses on business development and light industry recruitment, residential and quality of life park and recreational activities. The Town of Williamston will host a MLK Breakfast on Feb. 2 Crandall said.

The PBA organization is also looking at revising the Mission and Vision statements for the PBA. Greg Witul presented a draft version for members to consider.

The next meeting of the Palmetto Business Association will be Feb. 19 at 12 noon at West Pelzer’s Billy O’Dell Community Center.

PBA officers for 2019 are Roxanne Hall, President; Greg Witul, First Vice President; Sam Byler, Second Vice President; Paula Payton, Third Vice President; Emily Crawford, Secretary; and Faye Meares, Treasurer.
The organization is kicking off the year with the annual membership drive and renewals. Yearly dues are $150. The organization meets on the third Tuesday of each month at a location to be announced.
