JERRY CAMPBELL

A memorial/celebration of life service for Jerry Campbell will be held at Rehoboth Baptist Church , 1620 Old Pelzer Road, Piedmont, on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m.

 

RUTH SULLIVAN

WEST PELZER – Ruth Sherman Sullivan, 86, widow of Charles E. Sullivan, went to be with the Lord on March 8, 2019.

She was the daughter of Charles R. and Pauline G. Sherman of Piedmont.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bagwell (Stanley) of Piedmont; her sister, Betty Tripp of Piedmont; two granddaughters, Peyton Lewis (Blake) of Greenville and Shannon Livingston of Piedmont; and two great grandchildren, Carter Lewis of Greenville and Thomas Livingston of Piedmont.

Mrs. Sullivan was predeceased by five brothers: Dennis, Robert, Jewell (Jake), Joe Pell and Willis Sherman and one sister, Lou Mae Trotter.

She was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and served in mission groups over the years.  She had worked at Bigelow Sanford, and in her retirement years, loved spending time with her family and friends, working in her yard and fishing.

Visitation was at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 11, at Gray Mortuary in West Pelzer, with the funeral service following in the chapel at 2:00 p.m.  Mrs. Sullivan was laid to rest at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to West Pelzer Baptist Church, 29 Main St., West Pelzer, SC 29669. Flowers will also be accepted.

JACKIE GARTON

Jackie Lee Garton, 66, of Williamston, husband of Martha Bryant Garton, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Born in Fresno, CA, he was a son of the late George Edward and Velma Clark Garton.  He was retired from the U.S. Navy, having earned two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Tonia Harris of Anderson, Leslie Webb of Williamston, Julie James of Belton, Matt Turner of Pelzer and Lisa Blesi of New Hope, MN; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family members are at their respective homes.

FRED DARBY

Fred William Darby, 63, of Greer, died Friday, March 8, 2019.

Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Alvin Nelson and Thelma Brown Darby. He was a carpenter and an electrician.

Survivors include daughters, Melissa Darby of Gaffney and Susan Wells of Pelzer; son, Jason Darby of Brevard, NC and Todd Darby of Greer; brother, Charles “Chuck” Darby of Belton; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, March 13 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer.

KAREN M. FLOWERS

Karen Denise Mitchell Flowers, 65, of Greer, widow of Ronald Guy Flowers, died March 3, 2019.

A native of Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Bronnie and Robbie McMahan Mitchell, a certified nursing assistant and was of the Methodist faith.

Surviving are one daughter, Desirae Morrison of Piedmont; two sons, Devin Flowers of Greer and James Flowers of Taylors; one sister, Amelia Turner of Virginia; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 12 at Liberty United Methodist Church.

RICKEY SELLARS

GREENVILLE – Rickey Eugene Sellars, 61, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late R.E. and Alma Scruggs Sellars. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School and attended USC. He was formerly employed with Swan in Easley, coached t-ball, baseball and basketball, and was also known for spending a lot of time in downtown Greenville with his precious dogs, Abby and Mimi.

He is survived by sister, Sandra Wilbanks of Williamston; brothers, Larry “Spanky” Sellars (Glenda) of Piedmont and Robert “Bobby” Sellars (Trina) of Beaufort; several nieces and nephews; his beloved dog, Abby.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 16, at Piedmont Park Baptist Church, Greenville.

SARA JO FERGUSON

Sara Jo Shackleford Ferguson, 74, of Pelzer, widow of Milton Johnny Ferguson, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at her home.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Garvin and Eunice Waters Shackleford.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Jo Coker and Sandra Diane Vaughn, all of Pelzer; son, James Thomas Vaughn, Jr. of Williamston; sisters, Mary Howard of Piedmont and Brenda Pridmore of Pelzer; seven grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 12, at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer.

MARY ELIZABETH JONES 1979-2019

Mary Elizabeth ‘Marybeth’ Jones. Marybeth passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Marybeth was predeceased by her mother Louann Rollins. She is survived by her husband, Morgan Jones; her father, Thomas Rollins; Stepmother, Sara Rollins; Grandfather, Bryant Rollins; Sisters, Sararuth Rollins, Beverly Slaton, Joanne Harvey, Kelly Allison; two special uncles, Donnie Rollins and Roger Rollins. Last but certainly not least, her fur babies.

A celebration of Marybeth’s life will be held Saturday March 16 at 6 pm at Saint Francis Catholic Church.

RAY SPEARMAN

HONEA PATH – Charles Ray Spearman, 61, husband of Betty “Susie” Posey Spearman and phenomenal dad to Jessicka and Joshua, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of Marcelle Parker Spearman of Piedmont and the late James Lewis Spearman. He was the owner of Interstate Diesel Services and formerly employed by Ryder Trucks for twenty years.

In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by daughter, Jessicka Spearman (Eric Childs) of Piedmont; son Joshua Spearman of Alaska; sister, Kathy Streetman of Greer; brothers, Thomas Dee Spearman of Greenville, Kenneth Lewis Spearman of Piedmont and Ricky Spearman of Williamston; loving and devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Joplyn and Havyn Wahlenmayer, Natalia and Alana Childs.

He was predeceased by brother, Dwight Spearman.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 18, at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

KENNETH CHILDERS

Kenneth William Childers, 66, of Piedmont, husband of Darlene Childers, died Friday, March 8, 2019 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Ann Caputo and the late Emmuel Lloyd Childers. Ken retired from working in sales.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene Huffman Childers; his children, David Sullivan, of Cape Coral, FL; and Lori Cato, of Easley; his six grandchildren; and step brothers and sisters, Robert Parker, Jr.; Leslie Harless; and Elizabeth Smith.

A life celebration and gathering will take place Saturday, March 16, from 2:00pm – 3:00pm at Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road.

CLINTON N. WILLIAMS

Clinton N. Williams, 76, of Pelzer, died Monday, March 11, 2019 at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Dean Williams, of the home and two children, Renee and Everett

The family is at the home of his daughter, Renee Verdell, 101 Pence Court, Piedmont, SC.
