WILLIE TRUMAN ‘SKEET’ SIMMONS, LYNDA WHITSON, PEGGY IRBY, ALICE CRANE, REV. FREDDY GARNER

WILLIE TRUMAN ‘SKEET’ SIMMONS

WILLIAMSTON, SC -Willie “Skeet” Simmons, 73, of 1 Minor Street, died Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the home of his daughter, 305 Stone Briar Lane, Easley.

Born in Anderson County he was the son of Rochelle Simmons Sr. and Slemer McGee Simmons. He retired from Sloan Construction in 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Cordell Devon Simmons, five brothers, Booker T. Simmons, Lawrence Simmons, Rochelle Simmons Jr., Grady Simmons and Franklin E. Simmons; five sisters, Ruth Dotson, Ruby Evans, Allie Mae Clinkscales, Annie Bell Watson and Sadie Chamblee.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Ruth Dean Simmons, Piedmont; daughter, Cassandra Simmons, Easley; sister, Adell Jones, Anderson; three grandchildren, Cordell S. Simmons, Greer; Destiny and Ibriia Simmons, both of Easley.

Funeral services are 2 pm Thursday in the Marvin Mattison Memorial Chapel, D. B. Walker Funeral Home with Rev. Derrell Dean officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 6:30 – 8 pm.

The family is at the home of his daughter, 305 Stone Briar Lane, Easley, SC.

LYNDA WHITSON

PELZER – Lynda Carol Harrington Whitson, 79, wife of the late Donald Wayne Whitson, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019.

Born in Charlotte, NC, she was a daughter of the late Leon Polk and Eva Mae Cole Harrington. She had a love for genealogy.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews; and was the last surviving member of her family.

A graveside service was held at 2:00 pm Monday, April 29, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson, SC.

PEGGY IRBY

Peggy Paulette Cogburn Irby, 74, of Belton, wife of Melvin Casper Irby, died Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Paul Emanuel and Eunice Estelle McClain Cogburn. She retired from Swisstex Inc. and was a member of Beech Springs Tabernacle.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Lisa Paulette Fetherolf of Easley, LaDonna Carol Irby of Belton, and Angel Marie Arrowood of Greenville; brother, Jimmy Ray Cogburn, Sr. of Williamston; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held on Friday, April 26,  at Beech Springs Tabernacle.

ALICE CRANE

Alice Inez Davis Crane, 89, of West Pelzer, wife of the late Lewis Clyde Crane, died Thursday, April 25, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of the late Ed and Edna Allen Davis. She was a member of Pelzer Church of God.

Survivors include her son, Paul Crane of Pelzer; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral service was held Monday, April 29 at Pelzer Church of God. Burial followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

REV. FREDDY GARNER

Rev. Freddy Dean Garner, 70, husband of Juanita McAlister Garner, of Powdersville, died on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of Dollie Standard Garner and the late Lawrence Garner. He pastored at Riverview Baptist Church in Powdersville for nearly five years. He was the former owner of Garner’s Garage in Craytonville. He served in the SC Army National Guard.

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by two sons: Mickey Garner  of Rutherfordton, NC and Phil Garner of Belton; one daughter: Tammy Latimer of Belton; one brother: Dale Garner of Anderson; one half-brother: Calvin Garner  of Taylorsville, GA; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 1 at Riverview Baptist Church in Powdersville. Graveside services were held Wednesday at Winona Baptist Church Cemetery in Donalds.
