ELEANOR RICHARDSON, NETTIE LOU DAVIS, WATSON RENTZ, JANE HAMMOND JEANES, KENNETH SHUMATE

ELEANOR RICHARDSON

EASLEY – Eleanor Knight Richardson, 95, widow of Odell Richardson, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at her home.

Born in the Cheddar Community, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Bertie Hiott Knight.  She was retired from the Kendall Company and a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, LaVerle Wigington (Larry) of Easley; sisters, Joyce Caldwell of Williamston and Judy Green (Cecil) of Piedmont; granddaughter, Natalie Swillen (Brad); three great-grandchildren, Will, Caroline and Hayes Swillen.

She was predeceased by sister, Barbara Wentzky and brother, John Knight.

Visitation was held from 2 – 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. Burial was at White Plains Baptist Church cemetery.

The family would like to extend special thanks to caregiver, Claudette Foster, for the love and care shown to Eleanor during her illness.

NETTIE LOU DAVIS

COMER, GA – Nettie Lou Carter Davis, 80, wife of the late Boyd Lee Davis, formerly of Williamston, SC, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Buford E. and Ruby Dean Lamb Carter. She retired from Glen Raven and was formerly employed with Peerless for 15 years.

She is survived by daughters, Susan Davis Hiott of Smyrna, GA and Kris D. Gillespie (Billy) of Williamston; son, Tracy Davis (Lisa) of Westminster, MD; sister, Brenda Ferguson of Williamston; brothers, Doug Carter (Donna) of Williamston and Jimmy Carter of Williamston; grandchildren, Andrea Hiott of Berlin, Germany and Daniel Hiott of Smyrna, GA.

She was predeceased by sister, Josie Burgess; brothers, Eugene and Tex Carter; and longtime friend, Jerry Vaughn.

Visitation was held from 1:30 to 2:30 pm Tuesday, July 30, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. A graveside service followed at 3:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

WATSON RENTZ

WILLIAMSTON – Alphesus Watson Rentz, Sr., 94, husband of the late Iris Lyon Rentz, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Jesse Clyde Rentz, Sr. and Mary Herbert Attaway Rentz. He retired from Fiber Industries, formerly employed with Ace Hardware and was a farmer. He was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church and a member of the Pacesetters Square Dancing Club in Anderson.

He is survived by daughter, Nancy Rentz Crawford (Charles) of Williamston; son, Al W. Rentz, Jr. (Diane) of Williamston; brother, Dr. William Deer Rentz of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren, Ashley Acuff (David) and Lauren Rentz; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Drake Acuff.

He was predeceased by sister, Sara Virginia Rentz; and brothers, J.C. and George Rentz.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 27, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with visitation following the service.

JANE HAMMOND JEANES

Jane Hammond Jeanes, 69, of West Pelzer, wife of Jimmy L. Jeanes, Sr., passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late James Walter “J.W.” and Frances Milwee Jones Hammond. She was a member of Westville Baptist Church in Greenville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son, Jimmy L. Jeanes, Jr. of the home; daughter, Julie Branyon of Williamston; sisters, Milwee Blackshire and Wanda Day, both of Greenville, Earlene Mabry of Williamston; brother, Benny Hammond of Greenville; and special grandson, Dillon.

The funeral service was held Sunday, July 28, in the chapel of Gray Mortuary with burial following in Pine Lawn Cemetery, Pelzer.

The family is at the home of the daughter, 303 Sweetgum Circle, Williamston.

KENNETH SHUMATE

Kenneth “Gooter” Shumate, 64, of Piedmont, passed on Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Prisma health Upstate.

Funeral service was held Saturday, July 27 at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary, with a private burial.
