LILLY CAVINESS

Lilly West Lollis Caviness, of Easley, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Belton Bartow West and Inez Huckaby West.

She was a nurse with the Greenville Hospital System.

Surviving are her children, Sandra Lollis Reynolds of Easley, Brenda Lollis Hardy of Greenville and Charles E. Lollis, also of Greenville; a sister, Lois Wells of Williamston; a brother, Bill West of Houston TX; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her spouses, Rufus Taylor Lollis, Sr. and Ray Caviness.

A funeral service was conducted on Monday, August 26 in the chapel at Robinson Funeral Home, 1425 Powdersville Rd, Easley. Committal was in the mausoleum of Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2410 Gentry Memorial Hwy. in Pickens. The family is at the home of Sandy Reynolds in Easley.

HERMAN ‘BUD’ BOSTICK

Herman (Bud) Bostick, 87, of Piedmont, husband of Carolyn Sue Bostick, passed away on August 18, 2019.

Born in Liberty, IN he was the son of the late Clinton Bostick and Marie Kuhlman. He is also survived by his sons: James Bostick of Concord Township, OH; Mark Bostick of Holmes Beach, FL; Matthew Bostick of Easley, and three grandchildren.

A visitation was held at the family home in Piedmont on Sunday, August 25th.

ELIZABETH ‘LIB’ GOODWIN

Elizabeth “Lib” Smith Goodwin, 95, of Easley, widow of Clyde Daniel Goodwin, passed away, Tuesday, August 20, 2019.

She was born  in the Powdersville Community and was a daughter of the late William Roy Smith and Eula McCall Smith.

She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Verenda Chastain  of Piedmont, and Denise Hicks of Williamston; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Bobby Smith; and a sister, Mae Westbrook.

Funeral service was held Saturday, August 24 in the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

MARY WHEELER

Mary Ruth Heller Wheeler, 64, of Pelzer, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Bobby Joe Heller, Sr. and Peggy Joyce Cooper Heller.  She was currently employed with Macy’s in Greenville and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Maura Alexa Wheeler Adams of Spartanburg, sister, Terry Joyce Heller of Spartanburg and brother, Bobby Joe “Joey” Heller of Mauldin.

A memorial service was held Monday, August 26, at Gray Mortuary Chapel with visitation to follow.

SANDRA FAYE BALENTINE SHEDD

Sandra Faye Balentine Shedd, 71, of Honea Path, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at her home.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Edward G. Balentine, L.C. Crooks and Eula Mae Byers Balentine Crooks.

She retired from cosmetology and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by son, Dale Donahue of Piedmont; daughters, Gail Elledge  of Ware Shoals and Angie Gillespie of Honea Path; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James David Shedd;

Funeral service was held Sunday, August 25, in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Entombment followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

BLONDELL ANDREWS

Mrs. Blondell Andrews, 74, of Anderson, daughter of Grover and Gladys Henderson Jones was born in Williamston. She died on August 16, 2019.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Andrews Jr. of the home; daughter, Tonya Payne of Brooklyn, NY and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home, 123 Hurst Avenue, Anderson.

MARQUISE ROCHESTER

Marquise (Quisey) Rochester, age 24, of Pelzer passed Friday at the Spartanburg Regional Hospital.

He was born in Anderson County and was the son of Trasha Moss Rochester and Maurice Rochester. He was a graduate of Wren High School class of 2013.

He was a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, one brother Marlon Isaiah Marshall of Clemson.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Interment followed at New Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. The family is at the home.

THOMAS SMITH

Thomas Leo Smith, 76, of Greenville, husband of Mary Louise Taylor Smith, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Born in Oconee County, he was a son of the late Austin James Smith and Gertrude Capps Smith and was former owner of T.J. and R Metal Works.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jackie Smith of Belton and daughter, Donna Bridges  of Greenville; sisters, Mildred Jackson, Dorothy Brown, Barbara Hamby, Carol Stone, and Brenice Pipe; brothers, Virgil, Odell, Raymond, Johnny, and Stanley Smith; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held, Tuesday, August 27, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

MICHAEL BIGGS

Michael Joseph Biggs, 64, of Belton, husband of Charlene Ross Biggs, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019.

Born in Fort Dix, NJ, he was a son of the late William Ellison and Nancy Gwendolyn Champion Biggs and was a self-employed truck driver.

He is survived by sons, Jason Biggs of Williamston, James Biggs of Belton, and Sammy Biggs of Lafayette, GA; and daughter, Brandi Brown of Belton; ten brothers and three sisters; eleven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

PAUL BURNS, SR.

Paul Stanley Burns, Sr., 81, of Piedmont passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019.

Born in Travelers Rest, he was a son of the late David M. Burns and Jessie Pace Burns.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as an engineer at JP Stevens Parker Plant and was a member of River Road Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Garrett Burns; a son, Paul “Stanley” Burns, Jr.; a brother, Roy E. Burns; three sisters, Nan Williams, Betty Jo Rice, and Grace McManus.

Funeral service was held on Sunday, August 25 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. Burial followed in Graceland Cemetery West.

Memorials may be made to River Road Baptist Church, 1714 River Road, Piedmont SC.

JAMES ‘LEROY’ SNIDER

James “Leroy” Snider, 87, of Anderson, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Julian Ramey Snider and Annie Moore Snider. He served in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.

He was a contractor as well as the owner of All Aluminum and several other small businesses. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

He is survived by his children, Julie S. Vernon of Anderson, Wendy S. Thrift of Royston, GA, Laurie S. Priester of Mt. Pleasant, Russell Snider of Rock Hill, and David Snider of Powdersville; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Grant Snider.

The funeral service was held in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, August 25. Interment followed at Snider Family Cemetery in Mountain Rest.

HARVEY GRANT

PELZER – Harvey Lee Grant, 74, husband of Karen Davidson Grant, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Lena Hester Gilbert and step-father, Jim Gilbert. He retired from the Greenville Hospital System following forty-two years of service and attended Happy Trails Cowboy Church. He was a Hejaz Shriner and a member of the Pelzer Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Michael Grant (Mykayla) of Belton and Blake Grant (Lora) of Pelzer; daughter, Erika Parker (Nick) of Anderson; brother, Mike Lewis of Destin, FL; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, September 7, at Hejaz Shrine Club.

MARGARET GROVER

GREENVILLE – Margaret Shirley Grover, 95, of 11 East Augusta Place, Greenville, and formerly of 311 Piedmont Highway, Piedmont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 in the comforting presence of her family.

She is reunited with her late husband, Frank A. Grover. Margaret lived with absolute faith in God and loved her family, dearly.

Born in Piedmont, on October 25, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Nellie Mae Shirley and was a graduate of Piedmont High School.

Mrs. Grover was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, where she served in many leadership roles. She was also a faithful member of the church choir until her later years.

Surviving are daughter and son, Susan G. LaBoone (Bobby) of West Pelzer and Danny A. Grover (Amy) of Greenville; in addition to five grandchildren, Carlye and Bailey LaBoone, Emma, Charlotte, and Austin Grover; as well as a sister, Betty Wilson.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Glenn, and Billy Shirley.

The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at the First Baptist Church of Piedmont, with Dr. Stephen Hearne officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
