SHANNON COKER

Pelzer – Shannon Dawn Casey Coker, 47, wife of Chad Coker, won her battle after a courageous fight with cancer Monday, September 16, 2019 at her home, as she went to meet her Lord and Savior.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Mary Malinda Bright Casey of Williamston and the late Charles Glenn Casey.  She was formerly employed with Ellen Woodside Elementary School and was a member of Washington Baptist Church. She was a Proverbs 31 woman who loved her church family beyond measure.

A loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter and child of God, she is survived by children, Katlyn, Chanda and Chance Coker, all of the home; sister, Tonya Chandler (Greg) of Belton and brother, Scott Casey of Williamston; seven nieces and nephews; seven great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline Casey.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 20, at Washington Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 2:30 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

ROBERT HAWKINS

Robert Lee Hawkins, 89, of Honea Path, widower of Trudie Ann Fields Hawkins, died Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.

Born in the Long Branch Community of Anderson County, he was a son of the late Marvin and Jemima Pruitt Hawkins. He was a member of Honea Path First Baptist Church. He was retired from The Torrington Company and worked many years afterward with Pruitt Funeral Home.

He is survived by a daughter: Debbie Adkins of Piedmont; four grandchildren: eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be private.

DANIEL R. KERR

Dan R. Kerr ,70, of Piedmont, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019.

Surviving are his wife, Vickie Long Kerr, children; Shannon Gunnells, Traci  Watts, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Funeral service was held Sunday, September 15, in the Chapel of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 210 Mt. Airy Church Road, Easley.

JOHN MCGEE

John Wilson McGee, 89, of Belton, husband of Miriam Bates McGee, of Carroll Road, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019.

Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late Broadus Henry and Ruth Azilee Wilson McGee. He was a member of Barkers Creek Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was retired as a self employed building contractor.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are: four step-daughters, Ann Marie Crumley of Anderson, Samantha Allison of Pelzer, Sharon Roy of Mooresville NC, and Debbie Banister of Williamston; a sister, Lettie Ann Wright of Honea Path; seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 16 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

RICK NICKLES

Easley – Richard Arthur “Rick” Nickles, 69, husband of Donna Kaye Theis Nickles, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019.

Born in Williamston, he was the son of the late James Richard and Helen Jean Moore Nickles. He retired from Johnson Controls, Inc. at Clemson University and was a member of the Pelzer Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Richard Arthur “Rusty” Nickles, Jr. (Susan) of Hodges, Shannon Lee Nickles (Sylvia) of Williamston, Jason D. Barto (Stephanie) of Covington, LA, and Jonathan M. Barto of Georgetown, DE; sister, Nancy N. Cogburn (Jim) of Williamston; twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with service to follow at 12 p.m. in the mortuary chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

CLAUDIA IRENE PRICE

Claudia Price, 63, of Piedmont, died on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.

Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of Dorothy Irene Price and the late Claude Dewey Price.

In addition to her mom, She is survived by one sister, Karen Price Jefferson.

She was a Senior Tax Specialist and Partner at DowLohnes Price, a tax consulting group in Greenville.

A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, September 17th in the Main Worship Center of Calvary Baptist Church, Grandview Dr., Simpsonville. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

RAY ‘MACK’ SMITH

Ray “Mack” Smith, 79, of Piedmont, husband of Donna Gambrell Smith, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019, at his home.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late George Velmer Smith and the late Leona McCoy.

He retired from the Greenville News as Supervisor of Plate Making for the Engraving Department after thirty-four years.

He attended Triune Mercy Center in Greenville.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Jeffrey Scott Smith of Anderson; a daughter, Susan Salena Smith of Piedmont; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 15, in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home – Powdersville Road. Burial followed in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

DONNA THRALL

Williamston – Donna Lea Dove Thrall, 60, formerly of Ruffin, NC, wife of the late Richard Perry Thrall, III, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019.

Born in Charlotte, NC, she was a daughter of Joyce Ann Paris Dove Valentine of Williamston and the late Melvin Darby Dove.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by daughter, Kelly Hollingsworth (Chad) of Williamston; son, Phillip Sherman, II of Williamston; sister, Debbie Dove Streetman of Williamston; grandchildren, Katie and Caribeth Hollingsworth, Gaige and Andrew Sherman; and special caretaker, Dorothy Simpson.

She was predeceased by brothers, Randy and Ronnie Dove; and step-father, William Valentine, Jr.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 18, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 19 in the mortuary chapel with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
