On Wednesday, September 18, around 8:30 pm, a deputy with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a Nissan for reckless driving on Moores Mill Road in Piedmont. The driver failed to stop for law enforcement and a pursuit ensued. Tire deflation devices were successfully deployed and the vehicle attempted to make a turn onto Ivy Circle off Highway 29 near Forest Lawn with four flat tires. The driver lost control and wrecked off of Ivy Circle but then backed into one of the ACSO patrol vehicles, causing minimal damage.

The driver attempted to elude law enforcement again but was unsuccessful. The driver failed to exit the vehicle so deputies entered the vehicle to remove the driver from inside. During this process, the driver reached for a firearm in the passenger side of the car. Due to the actions of the driver, an ACSO K9 was used to extract them from within. The driver was then detained without further incident and was transported to the hospital.
