MELVIN KEELER

PIEDMONT – Melvin Benson Keeler, 71, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2019.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Hugh C. and Haddie Louise Davis Keeler. He was formerly employed with Hickory Point in Piedmont.

Survivors include daughter, Donna Land of Belton; sisters, Jeanette McAlister of Williamston, Nancy Tharp of Piedmont, Charlene Lesley of Marietta; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Vince Jordan; daughter, Rhonda Hamby; brothers, Hulon, Calvin, and Roger Keeler; and sister, Doris Franklin.

The family will be at his residence.

ELLEN HARVEY LEAGUE

Ellen Curran League, 94, of Greer, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Theo William Harvey and Clara Belle Whitmire Harvey.

She was the wife of the late James A. League.

She retired from Greenville Baptist Association. She was a member of Augusta Road Baptist. 

She is survived by two daughters, Curran Kay of Greer and Cyndee Hammett of Easley; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Smith of Piedmont and a brother, Bill Harvey of Ft. Inn.

A visitation was held Tuesday, October 8  at Augusta Road Baptist Church. The funeral service followed. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

REV. BILLY RAY WILSON

Reverend Billy Ray Wilson, 89, of Pickens, died on October 5, 2019. Born in Central, he was the son of the late Edgar Eugene Wilson and Mattie Elrod Wilson.

He served a number of Wesleyan Churches in the Pickens, Oconee and Anderson areas including: Mount Calvary Wesleyan in Easley, Fellowship Wesleyan in Iva, Keowee Wesleyan in Seneca, Pelzer Wesleyan in Pelzer, Arial Wesleyan in Easley, Anderson Wesleyan in Anderson and last served Smith Chapel in Liberty before his retirement. 

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Morgan Wilson; son, Gene Wilson  of Six Mile, two daughters Faith Culbertson of Piedmont, Becky Pitts of Taylors; and a sister, Genevieve Fowler of Liberty; six grandchildren; and ten great-grands. 

A service was held at the Dillard Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, October 8. Interment followed the funeral service on Tuesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

PAM STONE

Pamela Gail Saxon Stone, 63, of Pelzer, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Jim Adam and Lois Beatrice Gaillard Saxon.  She retired from Cushman Mill and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Lori Lynn Butler of Pelzer; sisters, Faye Worth and Lynn Saxon, both of Piedmont; brother, Jerry Saxon of Piedmont; four grandchildren; and onegreat-granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Tuesday, October 8, in the Chapel of Gray Mortuary.  Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

JULIE MONROE

Julie Belle McCall Monroe, 92, of Piedmont, wife of the late Marvin Franklin Monroe, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019.

Born in Piedmont, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Virgie Reese McCall. She was formerly employed with J.P. Stevens and a member of Piedmont Church of God of Prophecy.

She is survived by son, Gerald Monroe of Piedmont; daughters, Janice Childress of Williamston and Donna Haynie of Piedmont; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 9 in the chapel of Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 41247 Clemson Boulevard, Ste. L, Anderson, SC 29621.

The family members are at their respective homes.

JIMMY CAROL MASTERS

Jimmy Carol Masters, 71, of Marietta, passed away on October 3, 2019. 

He is survived by a brother Wayne D. Masters of Inman; a son, John Masters of Piedmont; two daughters, Kristina Boyd of Midlothian, VA, and Jennifer Pittman of Landrum; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church 1919 Highway 11 Landrum.

KEN COX

James Kenneth “Ken” Cox, 72, of Calhoun Falls, husband of Alice Croft Cox, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019.

Born in Duncan, he was a son of the late Cecil Charles and Gyrtha Idell Cooper Cox. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Farner, TN.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Curtis Melton, Lancy Gaitán, Possie Weeks, Benai Parker, Brian Cox, and Julie Bledsoe; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 10, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, with the service to follow. Burial will be at Wood Memorial Park, Greer.

MARSHALL PAUL MOORE

Marshall Paul Moore, 53 of Piedmont, died October 3, 2019. 

He was the son of Nancy Stunger and the late Claude D Moore. Brothers; Steve Moore, Ralph David Moore; Sister; Cindy Moore Watkins; Daughter, Heather Rae Moore. 

A Memorial Service was held at West Gantt First Baptist Church, 1452 White Horse Rd in the Fellowship Hall.

SADIE JEANETTE WOLFE GARRIS

SIMPSONVILLE – Sadie Jeanette Wolfe Garris, 86, wife of the late James Edward Garris, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019.

Born in Marion, VA, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Alee Crowe Wolfe. A former employee of the FBI, she was also an apartment complex manager and an assistant supervisor with Merrill Lynch. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, Williamston.

She is survived by son, Dennis Edward Garris (Donna) of Williamston; brother, John Wolfe (Gail) of Catlettsburg, KY; and sister-in-law, Freida Wolfe of Fairfax, VA.

She was predeceased by a brother, William Wolfe.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 9, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service will follow at 5:30, in the mortuary chapel.

A cryptside service with entombment will be held Saturday, October 12 at noon, National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
