Each fall and winter, this region is under threat from end of season hurricane activity and icy winter weather that can disrupt our service of delivering hot meals to the elderly and homebound of Anderson County.

In response to this need, each year Meals on Wheels calls for donations of NICE (Nutrition in Case of Emergency) Meals that can provide for our recipients if we are unable to deliver. The meals are made up of shelf-stable, ready-to-eat items that can be used in case of an emergency.

Each no-cook meal should include: Single serving, ready-to-eat, canned pop-top soup (no condensed soup); Individually wrapped Nutri-grain or granola bar; Single serving, canned or boxed juice (no grapefruit or energy drinks); Single serving, box of raisins; Single serving, cup of applesauce or fruit. Place all items in One Gallon Plastic Zippered Storage Bags.
NICE Meals are a fantastic activity for families, churches and other civic groups to participate in and are a vital lifeline to our recipients during inclement weather.
Meals on Wheels – Anderson will be accepting NICE Meal donations until Friday, November 22nd.
“Due to the unpredictable nature of the weather, it is better for us to have the NICE meals sooner, rather than later just to make sure we are adequately prepared in an emergency,” a spokesperson said.
