Work set to resume next week on SC Hwy. 20 bridge in Piedmont

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) announced this week that construction will resume next week on the SC Hwy. 20 bridge deck replacement project in Piedmont. The bridge spans the Norfolk Southern and CSX railroads in Greenville County and when the initial contractor on the project defaulted, it resulting in the need for the bonding company to retain a new contractor. The new contractor has acquired the necessary railroad insurance to begin work next week., SCDOT officials said.

The pubic is asked to continue following the official detour route posted along Old Pelzer Road (S-52) and Bessie Road (S-86). For specific concerns, the public can contact Resident Construction Engineer Jack Valetti at (864) 239-6091.

“SCDOT thanks the public for its patience and apologizes for any inconvenience during this project,” a SCDOT spokesperson said.
