DOUGLAS “DOUG” WAYNE ORR, THELMA G. SWEET, NAOMI OWENS, VIRGINIA POORE PRITCHARD HOLMES, JEWEL SPEARMAN SULLIVAN, EDDIE CHASTAIN, HELON AYERS

DOUGLAS “DOUG” WAYNE ORR

WILLIAMSTON, SC – Douglas “Doug” Wayne Orr, 70, of McAlister Rd. died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at his residence.

Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Arvin and Essie Phillips Orr.

Surviving are: the love of his life, Nancy Davenport Orr of Williamston; son, Brian Orr of Belton; brothers, Richard Orr (Doris) of Honea Path, and Arnold Orr (Shirley) of Anderson; 3 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

His daughter, Lori Skinner, preceded him in death.

Service was held 2pm Tuesday at Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wendell Bannister. Burial followed at Garden of Memories.

The family received friends prior to the service Tuesday from 12pm until 1:45pm at Cox Funeral Home.

The family will be at their respective homes.

THELMA G. SWEET

Thelma Grace Wilson Sweet, 82, of Pendleton, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at NHC Healthcare Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Albert Walter Wilson and Bertha Belle Baynard Wilson.

She worked for many years at Roddy’s Fried Chicken, Pelzer and later at Clemson University as a custodian where she retired. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse Walter Sweet of the home; sons, Gregory Walter Sweet  of Anderson, Charles Gary Hammond of Fountain Inn, and Ronald “Ronnie” Stanley Hammond of Williamston; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Funeral service was Monday, Nov. 11 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Temple Baptist Church, 2905 Standridge Rd., Anderson, SC 29625.

NAOMI OWENS

Nancy Naomi Finley Owens, 82, of Williamston, wife of the late Douglas Theo Owens, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Christine Finley. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Roberta Leopard of the home; sister, Doris Finley Rowland; brothers, Billy and Thomas Finley, all of Williamston.

She will be buried at Six and Twenty Baptist Church Cemetery.

VIRGINIA POORE PRITCHARD HOLMES

Virginia Poore Pritchard Holmes, 92, of Williamston, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Iva Rehab and Healthcare.

Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late James and Thelma Poore, twice widowed, by the late Durrell Pritchard and by the late Spurgon Holmes. She was a member of LaFrance Church of God of Prophecy.

She is survived by her sons: Stephen Pritchard, James Holmes and Denver Lee Holmes; daughters: Virginia Faye Broome, Janis Sekerchak, and Fredia Holmes; brother: Norman Poore; sisters: Dorothy Bowen and Barbara Harris; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Sosebee Mortuary South Chapel on Wednesday, November 13. Burial followed in Old Silverbrook Cemetery.

JEWEL SPEARMAN SULLIVAN

Mrs. Jewel Spearman Sullivan, 90, of Piedmont, wife of the late James Maxwell Sullivan, died Sunday, November 10, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, a daughter of the late James Earl Spearman and the late Lula Sanders Spearman, She was retired from Milliken Mills and a charter member of Wren Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Sullivan Orr of Piedmont; a sister, Lula Mae Spearman of Columbia; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and a special great-grandson, Jacob Orr-Massey.

Funeral services were  Wednesday, November 13 at Wren Baptist Church. Burial followed in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

EDDIE CHASTAIN

PELZER – Hiram Edward “Eddie” Chastain, III, husband of Sandra Gail Bracken Chastain, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019.

Born in Charleston, he was the son of Hiram Edward “Ed” Chastain, Jr. of the home, and of the late Frances Lucille Whitmire Chastain. He was formerly employed with 3M in Greenville and was a member of Pelzer First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and father, survivors include his sons, Jason and Cory Chastain of the home, and Joshua Chastain of Williamston; and six grandchildren, Aubrey, Chloe, Jackson, Brayden, Cade, and Kyleigh Chastain.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 in the mortuary chapel.

HELON AYERS

Clara Helon Ayers, 94, of Greer, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Roy Enoree and Fay McHugh Ayers.

She retired from Anderson School District One and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Ann Merritt of Easley.

A graveside service will be held Friday, November 15, at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
