Books open today for filing for Pelzer special election

Any candidate seeking to run for Mayor or Town Council in the 2020 Special Election in Pelzer must file with the Clerk of the Town of Pelzer at Town Hall, 103 Courtney St., Pelzer during the upcoming filing period.
Filing opens noon, February 4, 2020, and closes noon, February 18, 2020. Filing hours are Weekdays:  8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The election will be for the mayor’s seat and one seat on town council. The special election is to fill vacancies following announcement of the resignations of Councilwoman Olene Bear and Mayor Roger Scott.
The Statement of Intention of Candidacy form is required for filing is available in the “Candidate Information” section of scVOTES.org and at the Town Hall.
Filing fees are paid at the time of filing by candidates seeking to run.  Filing fee checks should be made payable to the appropriate Town of Pelzer.
Candidates are also required to file a Statement of Economic Interests and a Campaign Disclosure online with the State Ethics Commission at http://ethics.sc.gov.  Failure to file these documents may result in a candidate fine but will not disqualify a candidate from the election.  Contact the State Ethics Commission for more information.
