Dessie Ford

Dessie Rhee Sims Ford, 80, wife of Rendell Anthony “Tony” Ford, of Ware Shoals passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020.

 Born in Seneca, she was a daughter of the late Bethel Andrew Sims and Ressie Lee Merritt Sims Nix.  She was a homemaker and was a member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, James Andrew Smith of Rosenberg, TX, Tony Odell Smith of Blue Ridge, GA, Ricky Wayne Smith of Pelzer, Alan Keith Smith of Liberty, Kimberly Michelle Smith Monroe of Piedmont, Jeffrey Neil Smith of Piedmont and Jada Ann Ford of the home; grandson reared in the home, James Daniel Smith of Pelzer; sister, Peggy Sims Crocker of Seneca: brother, Carl Sims of Seneca; 21 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation Wednesday, March 4, from 1:00 – 2:30 pm at Gray Mortuary with the service to follow at 2:30 pm in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

 The family will be at the home of her daughter, Kim Monroe, 361 Highpoint Road, Piedmont.

 

Jannie Carolyn Thrasher Wood

Williamston – Jannie Carolyn Thrasher Wood, 70, of 20 Lander St. died Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Charlie Norris Thrasher. 

Surviving are: sons, Doug Wood (Christy), and Timmy Wood (Christina) all of the home; brothers, Grover Thrasher (Gail), and Lawrence Thrasher (Jackie); sisters, Annie Mae Everette (Joey), and Geraline E. Weathers; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clayton, Tommy, and Noah Thrasher; and sister, Odell Fuller.

The family received friends from 6pm until 8pm Saturday at Cox Funeral Home.

The family will be at the residence.

Mark Engene Castle Sr.(Yankee) 

Mark Engene Castle Sr.(Yankee), 57, of Pelzer, SC lost his battle with cancer Tuesday February 25, 2020 at Anderson Memorial Hospital. Mark will join his father Clyde Castle and his sister Rhonda Brown in heaven. Mark is predeceased by his grandparents Emert and Emma Kate Castle, and Paul and Nellie Foresythe Lowman.

Mark was born in Hagerstown, Maryland. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing and being outside with family and friends. He is survived by his life partner Kerry Hinz and her son Shawn Hall. His mother Linda Summerville (Mike Summerville), step mother Linda Castle. four brothers – John (Kathleen), Larry (Lisa) and Jimmy (Tabitha) Frady and William Castle. Four sisters – Cindy Allen (Alan), Candy Albright (Drew), Crystal Hatley (David) and Cassandra Nave. Daughter Rebecca Polley (Melvin) and four sons – Mark Jr., Josh, Justin and Jason Castle and Shawn Hall. Not to be forgotten are his numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and all of his extended family.

Receiving of friends will be held March 10, 2020 at Pelzer Church of God from 11: 00 am – 2:00 pm at the hall. Services follow at 2:30 pm in the Chapel. At Mark’s request, any donations will be forwarded (via Crystal Hatley) to the Anderson Cancer Center. 

 

Tyler Wortham

Greenville – Christopher Tyler Wortham, 31, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020.

Born in Greensboro, NC, he was a son of the late Timothy Oliver and Phyllis Diane Chism Wortham.

He is survived by a brother, Dennis Lee Wortham of Belton and an uncle, David Wortham (Marianne) of Belton.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Lickville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Doris Thompson

Doris Garrett Thompson, 91, wife of the late James Benjamin Thompson, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020.

 Born in Laurens County, she was the daughter of the late William Earl and Betty Tumblin Garrett. She retired from Milliken and was a member of West Pelzer Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Deborah Freeman of Taylors; sons, Keith Thompson of Seneca and Don Thompson of Seneca; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mike Finley

Richard Michael “Mike” Finley, 65, husband of Debra Sue Woodson Finley, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of the late Roy Junior and Florence Marie Rogers Finley. He retired from Michelin Tire Corporation and was a member of Whitefield Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Dana Finley of Williamston; son, Jason Finley of Easley; brothers, Gary Finley of Williamston, Dale Finley of Williamston, and Keith Finley of Belton; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Whitefield Baptist Church on Monday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. The family will greet friends following the service.

 

Sheila Marlene Bryant

Sheila Marlene Bryant, 69, wife of Larry Bryant of Greenville, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020. 

Born and raised in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Harold Eller and Betty Frances Stewart Eller. She retired from Robertson Optical in Greenville.

In addition to her husband Larry, she is survived by her son, Cameron Langley of Piedmont and daughter, Crystal Bryant of Greenville; two grandchildren, two brothers, Michael H. Eller of Spartanburg, and Brian H. Eller of Greenville. 

Services will be privately held at the convenience of her family.

 

Mildred Howard

Piedmont – Mildred Levenia Allen Howard, 90, widow of Frank Howard, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020.

 Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Harold “Dock” Allen and Eva Maranda Reid Anchors.  She was retired from Piedmont Manufacturing and a member of Piedmont First Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Jean Nelson (James “Mike”) and Lynn Helms (Larry), all of Piedmont; sister, Nancy Merritt of Piedmont; grandchildren, Zach Helms (Paige), Maranda Nelson, and Dee Dee Rutledge (Shane); great-grandchildren, Matthew and Andrew Rutledge; and a great-great-grandchild, Mattie Rutledge.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Eva Mae Howard and a brother, Harold Allen.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at Rose Hill cemetery in Piedmont.

Larry Jennings

Larry Ronald Jennings, 61, passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020.

Born in Williamston, he was a son of Brenda June Dyer Smith (Charles) of the home, and of the late Jimmy Ronald Jennings. He was formerly employed with Southern Painting.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Laura Ashley Jennings of NC.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 4, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Life Church, Piedmont, with the service to follow at 2:00. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
