West Pelzer working on budget, town operations continue

The West Pelzer Town Council meeting that was scheduled for last Tuesday, Apr. 7, was canceled due to the current coronavirus situation. However town operations continue, though with some modifications.
Town Clerk Paula Payton provided the following updates and information related to recent activities in the Town of West Pelzer and upcoming events.
The April 2020 Department Meeting is being held via email; summary/responses will be forwarded to Council as soon as they are available
West Pelzer is partnering with Anderson County to promote the 2020 Census; please encourage your friends, family and neighbors to participate so we are counted accurately
In the Public Works Department,  16 work orders were completed in the month of March. Work Orders can be submitted by residents online (www.westpelzer.com) or by calling Town Hall.
The Town-wide clean up scheduled for March 21st was cancelled and will be rescheduled.
Sanitation will run as usual, unless notification is received, even on holidays.
West Pelzer Mayor Blake Sanders has provided all Council Members with a draft budget for review. First reading on the new budget is expected to be held at the May 5 meeting.
There are no upcoming events scheduled until the coronavirus situation changes.
Related to Covid-19:
The Municipal Center has been closed to the public since Tuesday March 17, 2020; this could last through April 30, per President Trump and Governor McMaster’s orders
All departments are currently on a “spending freeze”; if there is an immediate need it will be reviewed by the town clerk, Mayor Sanders and Councilman Riddle to determine approval.
The town has seen a decrease in utility collections due to the Governor’s order of suspending disconnects of vital services.
Court is closed until further notice, which has also caused a decrease in collections;
Business License renewals will not be mailed to our locally owned businesses until a more appropriate time

West Pelzer Police Stats for March include:
Crime Stats – Reports- 31; Arrests-11; Traffic related – 9; Drug related-2; DUI-1; Warrant served-1; Tickets Written-63.
According to West Pelzer Police Chief Alexis Eliopoulos,  the Palmetto 5k Palomino Trot has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. Eliopoulos also reported officers have PPE gear (masks, gowns, hand sanitizer, gloves, etc.) and all officers are healthy and in good spirits.
