Tree down in Williamston, flooding warning in effect for area

A huge oak tree fell across Mahaffey Road near Academy Street early Wednesday morning. Town workers cleared the tree from the roadway. The entire road was blocked. Heavy rain and winds around 12 -14 mph are expected to cause problems throughout the area.

According to the National Weather Service, a flash flood warning is in effect for Northern Anderson County and Central Greenville County until noon. Heavy rain and flash flooding is being reported across the area. Storm total rainfall across the area is exceeding five inches in spots. Widespread stream, creek and roadway flooding is expected to continue to develop, particularly from Piercetown to Powdersville and throughout the city of Greenville.

Most flood deaths occur in vehicles when drivers attempt to cross water covered roadways, bridges or low level crossings.
