Williamston Mayor Mack Durham and other officials will meet in Mineral Spring Park Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. to make an announcement about the full re-opening of the park and to make a representative statement regarding the recent death of Mr. George Floyd and events following in the days afterward.
Mayor Durham plans to make a statement against injustice and violence, and in support of a peaceful resolution, supportive governance and community policing practices.
Town Councilmen, Department Heads, town staff, town employees and local clergy have been invited.
Regarding the park opening, Durham said the town has not had a spike in positive cases of COVID-19 this week, with only one positive case currently being reported in the 29697 zip code.
However, the mayor is encouraging public safety measure as the coronavirus situation still lingers.
“Social distancing, use of masks, and personal sanitary practices are encouraged to continue,” Durham said. “Immuno-compromised individuals should avoid social gatherings including our parks.”
