The Powdersville YMCA will officially cut the ribbon on a new 10,000 square foot expansion of its branch in a ceremony on Friday, October 23. The expansion opened for member use on October 14.
“In this moment, we do not want to overlook all that God has been doing! Even during COVID-19, our mission and vision are still alive and thriving,” said President & CEO Sid Collins. “The YMCA movement has been around for 176 years, and we know our mission impacts lives in a positive way. We want to celebrate the blessings we have
and what we are going to be able to do with those blessings!”
The Powdersville YMCA is one of three branches that make up the YMCA of Easley, Pickens & Powdersville.

The expansion includes a Functional Training Room, a Strength Center, additional cardio equipment in the Wellness Center, a Snack Shack canteen and four family-restrooms at the Aquatics Complex. Additionally, a future phase of the project will include a spin room, personal training studio and outdoor walking track.
The 10,000 square foot expansion of the Powdersville YMCA has been made possible through the generous support and partnership of our members and community, showing that, even in times of unprecedented strife, the mission of the Y stands as a beacon of hope.

Even during a year that saw upheaval in personal lives and finances, more than 80 community members and businesses gave to the capital campaign to help fund this project.
“We thank our donors from the bottom of our hearts,” Collins said. “We have all been through challenging times in 2020, and our donors have been committed partners to our mission and our vision to grow the Powdersville YMCA. They are the cornerstone of changing lives for so many in our communities.”

The Functional Training room features equipment used in more intense training and classes like Beast Mode, Boot Camp and TRX. While it will host those classes and be open to members to work out together or individually, it will also serve as an area where additional classes and programs can be held, such as Homeschool PE and KidFit.

The new Strength Center will house free weight equipment as well as many weight machines. New equipment will be added to the weight equipment being moved from within the current Wellness Center. Not only will this give members who are interested in strength training more options, but it will also give everyone more space to
complete their workout.

Adding the new Strength Center will also open up additional room in the Wellness Center, allowing for additional cardio equipment and space for stretching, training and coaching.
The Snack Shack opened during the Summer and was a big hit with members, selling drinks, snacks and pizza at the Aquatics Complex’s Lap Pool and Play Pool. When the pools reopen for outdoor use next Spring, the Family Restrooms will be available at the Aquatics Complex so that members do not have to leave the pool area for
restrooms or to change.

The Powdersville YMCA is located at 9115 Highway 81 N. Piedmont.
