Taylor Pruitt

Catherine Taylor Pruitt of Piedmont, 35, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020.

   Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of Ricky Dean Pruitt, Sr. of Greenville and Shirley Ann Reynolds Scott of Richmond, TX.

Additional survivors include her children, Jalyn Shorey of the home, Serenity Pruitt of Woodruff, Kaden and Kameron Pruitt of the home; and grandmother, Catherine “Cat” Pruitt of Taylors.

A graveside service will be held Friday, October 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends following the service.

Clara Taylor

Clara Jeanette Waldrop Nix Taylor of Liberty, 68, wife of Sam Taylor, passed away Monday, October 26, 2020.

 She was twice married, first to the late Gerald “Jerry” Nix.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of Margie Moore of Liberty and of the late Theron Otis Moore. She retired from St. Jude Medical in Liberty and was a member of Galilee Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by son, Ken Nix of Anderson; daughter, Lisa Wright of Easley; sisters, Cindy Campbell of Piedmont and Tammy Ramsey of Easley; brother, Tony Moore; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 30, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Easley.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Shirley Black

Shirley Jean Williams Black of Piedmont, 85, wife of the late William “Bill” Randolph Black, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

Born in Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Frank Benjamin and Audrey Elizabeth Bray Williams. She was formerly employed at Wren High School as a cashier in the cafeteria. She was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church.

She is survived by sons, Randy Black of Piedmont and Steve Black of Piedmont; sisters, Diane Williams George of Piedmont and Sue Williams Burrell of Greer; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 3, at Mountain Springs Baptist Church. The service will follow at 2:00 pm in the church. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Jerry Johnson

Jerry Michael Johnson, Sr., 83 of Pelzer, husband of Nancy Olivia Hammond Johnson, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020.

Born in Princeton, WV, he was a son of the late James Clarence and Lucille Bray Johnson. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he retired as an air traffic controller, having worked at both GSP International and Anderson Airport. He was a member of Beech Springs Tabernacle.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Jerry Michael “Joey” Johnson, Jr. of Pelzer; daughter, Tonya Johnson Teal of Lake City; brother, William Randolph Camden of Winfield, WV; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Beech Springs Tabernacle, with the service to follow at 3:00.

Burial will be Friday, October 30, at 1:30 p.m. at M. J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

The family is at the home.

Ray Vaughan

Pelzer – James Ray Vaughan, 85, husband of Joyce Lynn “Pete” Day Vaughan, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020 at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Vardry Maddison and Mamie Lollis Vaughan.  He was retired from BP/Amoco, a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.  Ray was a loving husband and father and a big Clemson fan.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Jennifer Dorsey (Jim) of Anderson, sons, James Ricky Vaughan (Theda) of Greenville and Russell “Russ” Vaughan (Ginger) of Cumming, GA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

   He was predeceased by a sister, Sybil Lockaby; brothers, Bill, Rev. Donald, Bruce and Gordan Vaughan; and one great-grandchild, Ryker Waller.

 A funeral service was held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, in the New Hope Baptist Church Prayer Garden with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation followed the service in the Prayer Garden.
