In the Williamston Municipal Election, Rockey Burgess has won the mayor’s seat, defeating incumbent mayor Mack Durham by 120 votes. Burgess received 724 votes to Durham’s 604.
Incumbent councilman Chris Alexander, running unopposed, received 1097 votes for his Ward 4 seat. Newcomer Tabitha Austin received 1021 votes running unopposed for the Ward 3 seat. Austin will be the first female to serve on Williamston Town Council.
A special election will be scheduled, probably in March, to fill the Council Ward 2 seat that will come open when Burgess takes office in January. Current Town Attorney Lee Cole said he plans to file to run for the seat. (Results are unofficial until certified).
