Doris Virginia Lawless 

Doris Virginia Lawless of Piedmont, 87, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. 

Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Edward Grady Jones,Sr.and Bernice Bagwell Jones. 

She attended Piedmont First Baptist Church. 

She is survived by husband, David Lawless; son Craig Lawless; one grandson and four great-grandchildren. 

A visitation was held on October 31, at Piedmont First Baptist Church with a funeral service following. A private burial was held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

James Pressley

Williamston – James Gary Pressley, 92, husband of Velma Sentell Pressley, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

   Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late James Talmadge and Dorothy Lois Forrester Pressley. He retired from Liberty Life Insurance Company and was a life member of the Williamston Masonic Lodge # 24. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, he was a Deacon Emeritus, Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and served on the Stewardship and Finance Committees.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jennifer E. Pressley of Williamston and Melissa A. Pressley of Simpsonville; son, Ronald E. Pressley (Carolyn) of Hattiesburg, MS; grandchildren, Kristin P. Gilmer (Tracy) and Ashley P. Herrin (T.J.) of Hattiesburg, MS; and five great-grandchildren, Kylie, Kenzie, Slade, and Olivia Gilmer, and Alec Thompson.

   He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Pressley.

Visitation was held Friday, October 30, from 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with the service following at 2:30 p.m. Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Building Fund, 10 Academy Street, Williamston, SC 29697.

   The family is at the home.

Dennis Rochester

Dennis Alan Rochester of West Pelzer, 61, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Albert F. and Mattie Inez Whitten Rochester. He was employed at Home Depot, in Greenville.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Janie Hughes Rampey 

Janie Hughes Rampey, 99 of Piedmont, wife of the late James Leon Rampey, died Monday, October 26, 2020. 

Born in Roxboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Ora Hughes. 

She is survived by two daughters, Iris Hooper and Linda Miller; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Alma Daniel. 

A graveside service was held on November 2, at Greenville Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Augusta Road Methodist Church or to Open Arms Hospice. 

Jeanne M. Smith 

Jeanne M. Smith, 97, of Pelzer, SC, died Sunday, November 1, 2020 in her home. She was the widow of the late Pastor E. Richard Smith.   

Born in Grandville, Michigan on July 8, 1923, she was the daughter of Harold and Ada Simpson. She was a member of the Bethel Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith for over forty years. She ministered beside her husband in their sixty plus years of service to the Lord. They served in churches in Michigan, Missouri, Louisiana, Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, North Carolina , and South Carolina. Her passions in service were women’s  and children’s ministries.      

Surviving are a brother Charles A. Simpson of Aston, Pennsylvania; three children, Bonnie Parker of Pelzer, South Carolina, Ginnie and (Jim) Cope of Greenville, SC; and Jerry and (Sonja) Smith of Piedmont, SC; ten grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. 

She was preceded in death by a brother Curtis.Simpson of Springfield, Ohio; a sister Ruth Ann Bush of Blanchard, Michigan; an infant son, Jimmy (James Howard) Smith, and a son- in- law Lanny Parker.    

She will be greatly missed by anyone whose life she touched.      

Services are Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Bethel Church of God, 420 Old Brickyard Road, Pelzer, S.C. Visiting hours will be from 1:00 to 2:00 followed with a Memorial Service at 3:00.

Ronnie W. Burton 

Ronnie W. Burton of Piedmont, 79, passed away October 27, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital.  Born in Calhoun Falls, he was the son of the late Wesby and Rosalie Burton.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Burton and three sons, Ashley Burton, Todd Burton, and Dr. Christopher Burton, and a daughter, Dana Nash. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren  Also surviving are two sisters, Camilla Haggerty and Cindy Stone. 

He was a State Farm Agent.

He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.  

Family received friends Wednesday, November 4, at Siloam Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. 

Michel Hunt

Michel Kenneth “Mikey” Hunt, Jr. of Woodruff, 23, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of Michel Kenneth Hunt, Sr. of Woodruff and of the late Patricia Diane Smart Hunt. He was employed with Bosch Rexroth and was a member of Black Jack’s M. C. of Spartanburg.

He is survived by  a sister, Kristie “Michelle” Powell of Greenville.

Visitation was held on November 4, at Gray Mortuary. A graveside service followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Hal Davenport 

Hal Terry Davenport, 72 of Piedmont, husband of Wanda Davenport, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020. 

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of Betty McIntosh Davenport and the late Cecil Davenport. 

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Simpsonville and retired from Hartness International.  

In addition to his wife and his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Stephanie McGee and her husband, Lee; two grandsons, sister, Karen Cobb; and brother, Danny Davenport. 

A graveside service was held on November 2nd at Greenville Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sandra Davis

Sandra Lee Austin “Sandy” Davis of Pelzer, 74, wife of the late Randy Robert Davis, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020.

Born in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Annette Bolden Austin. She retired from Summitt Building Service.

She is survived by her sons, Charles Davis of Pelzer, Shone Davis of Pelzer and Robbie Davis of Taylors.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joel Taylor

Joel Kenneth Taylor of Pelzer, 80, widower of Frances Henrietta “Sissy” Thompson Taylor, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020 at his home.

 Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Guy Ray and Jessie Alma Kelly Taylor.  He was retired from Greenville Distribution and a member of Pelzer First Baptist Church as well as the Pelzer Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include daughter, Ann Gaston of Williamston; brothers, Garnett Taylor of Williamston, Bill Taylor of Belton, Robert “Bob” Taylor of Pelzer; two-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held November 1 at Gray Mortuary Chapel, Pelzer burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

“Pee Wee” Garrett

Walter George “Pee Wee” Garrett of Greenville, 65, husband of the late Dorothy Melanie Garrett, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020.

Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late A.J. Garrett, Sr. and Lou Ella Gilliam Garrett.  He served in the U.S. Army, worked for GM Mechanical and was a member of Washington Baptist Church, Pelzer.

He is survived by a daughter, Brandi Garrett of Anderson; sisters, Carolyn McCarson of Greenville and Barbara Martin of Gray Court; brother, Leon Garrett of Pelzer; and five grandchildren.

A graveside service was November 2 at Washington Baptist Church Cemetery, Pelzer.
