Krystal Webb

Krystal Michelle Fowler Webb, age 41, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. 

She was born December 28, 1979, in Anderson, SC, and was the daughter of Steve and Rita Carter Fowler.  

Krystal was a 1998 graduate of Palmetto High School.  She attended Anderson University and was a graduate of Greenville Technical College.  She was formerly employed as an administrator with Greenville Health System and was currently a registered nurse at AnMed Health, also working with DHEC.  Krystal’s life calling was to be a nurse and take care of others which she enjoyed tremendously. She was selfless by nature and touched many lives during her career.  Krystal was an amazing mother, sister, and loving daughter and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew her. 

In addition to her parents, those left to cherish her memory are Jacob Dean Webb and their daughter, Isabella Victoria Webb; brother, Corey Fowler (Ciara); sister, Amber Jennings (Brian); nieces and nephews, Emma Grace, Jordan, Zachariah, and Emily Rae; and father and mother-in-law, Rev. Dean and Judy Webb.  

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. Joseph and Mary Carter and Howard Fowler and Shirley Martin.  

The family received friends Saturday, June 12, 2021, from noon to 1:30 pm at High Praises Church of God.  The funeral service followed at 2:00 pm with Rev. Brian Jennings and Rev. Dean Webb officiating.  

Flowers will be accepted and memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E Calhoun St, Anderson, SC 29621.

The family will be at the home of Steve and Rita Fowler.

Joyce Guthrie

Williamston – Joyce Kathleen Justice Guthrie, 68, wife of James Stanley Guthrie, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021.

Born in Greenville County, she was a daughter of Ruby Lee Sizemore Justice of Easley and the late Harold William Justice. She was a stay-at-home mom and a member of Dorchester Baptist Church in Belton.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by daughters, Amanda Guthrie Wilmott (Bo) of Williamston, Shelley Guthrie Allen of Williamston, and Rhonda Denise Guthrie of Anderson; sister, Judy Georgiadis (Jimmy) of Greer; brother, Michael Justice of Easley; and five grandchildren, Jacob Guthrie, Hope Allen, Branden Guthrie, Kelli Allen, and Mason Wilmott.

She was predeceased by a brother, Mark Justice.

   Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Gray Mortuary. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the mortuary chapel, with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Rita Hester

 Rita Faye Phillips Hester of Pelzer, 67, widow of Claude Michael Hester, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie James and Margie Cordelia Lay Phillips.  She was a homemaker and of the Church of God Prophecy faith.

Survivors include sisters, Charlotte Robinson of Belton and Nancy Stone of Blythewood; sister-in-law, Judy Hester of Pelzer; brothers, Ralph Phillips and Ronnie Phillips of Honea Path.

The family received friends  Friday, June 11, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The funeral service followed in the mortuary chapel.  Burial was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Anderson.

Donna Grant

Donna Jean Kerr Grant of Williamston, 76, wife of Tommy “Pat” Ray Grant, Sr., passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Kerr and Lillie Mae Evans Kerr Paris. She retired from Milliken and was a Baptist.

   In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Debbie Howell, Tommy R. Grant, Jr. , Kristie Chappell and Lee Etris; sister, Brenda A. Kerr; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held June 12 at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. The service followed at the mortuary chapel with entombment at Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Willie Ruth Kay Burgess

Anderson-Willie Ruth Kay Burgess, 83, widow of the late Lawrence Ray Burgess, formerly of Hand Dr., Belton, died Tuesday June 8, 2021 at NHC-Anderson.

Born on June 22, 1937 in Belton to the late William Aaron, Sr. and Edna Pauline Davis Kay, she was a graduate of Belton High School. She retired from BASF as a Lab Technician after 20 years of service.

She attended Whitefield Baptist Church and was a member of the Todd Creamer Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her sisters, Mary Helen Kay Hiott and Frances Azalee Kay Kinard, both of Williamston; her brother, William Aaron Kay, Jr. and wife Ann of Antreville; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 AM from the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Clardy officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories.

The family is at the home of Azalee Kinard and will receive friends Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of service at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Caris Hospice and NHC who treated Willie like family.

William Charles “Hoss” Rumsey 

William Charles “Hoss” Rumsey, 85, of Williamston, passed away on Thursday June 3, 2021 at his home.

Born on August 21, 1935, he was the son of the late Hailey and Olis Rumsey and husband to Connie M. Rumsey. Hewas a Veteran of the US Army, and was also a retired employee of the Harpers Corporation.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children: Doug Rumsey and Susan Rumsey; as well as very close family friends.

A memorial will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 1300 Anderson Drive Williamston at 6pm .

Peggy Young

Piedmont – Margaret Sue Ashburn “Peggy” Young, 75, wife of Ron Young, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Born in Clarkrange, TN, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Jackson and Bernice Franklin Ashburn. She retired from Blackwell Amusement (now Joytime Distributing Amusement Company). A member of Augusta Road United Methodist Church, Peggy was involved with United Methodist Women, volunteered as the church treasurer, taught children’s Sunday School, was one of the organizers and supporters of Vacation Bible School, and the Young at Heart Group, where she enjoyed the fellowship. She also volunteered within the Greenville County School System and was a driving force in getting Woodmont Middle School’s Library up and running. Peggy loved traveling with her husband, their siblings and spouses, having visited all fifty states and several foreign countries, including Australia and New Zealand.

She is survived by daughters, Greta Blocker (Michael) of Bishop, GA and Jennifer Campbell (Robby) of Pelzer; sisters, Lola Hall and Barbara Criswell (Gene) of Muncie, IN; brother, Elmer Ashburn, Jr. (Charlene) of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Allison and Megan Blocker, Julia and Coleman Wagner; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law and spouses.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Dean Young, II; and brothers, Ezra, Kenneth, and Robert Ashburn.

Visitation was held Sunday, June 13, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. at Augusta Road United Methodist Church. A memorial service followed at 3:00 p.m.

Michael Pearson

Michael Stephen “Mike” Pearson of Williamston, 63, husband of Frances Elizabeth “Libby” Babb Pearson, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

Born in Laurens, he was a son of the late David Charles Pearson and Shirley Ann Roberts Wardlaw. He was formerly employed with Rogers Auto Parts.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by step-mother, Pat Pearson of West Pelzer; a son, Michael Joey Pearson of Williamston; brothers, Kenneth Pearson of Laurens, Jeff Pearson of West Pelzer, and Danny Staton; sister, Shannon Lewis of Pelzer;  two grandchildren and  two great-grandchildren.

   A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 19, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

Joe Turner

Joe Ralph Turner, 72 of Pelzer, husband of Tammy Elizabeth Day Turner, passed away Monday, June 14, 2021.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary Chapman Turner. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was formerly employed with 3M and was a Baptist.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeremy Turner of Anderson and one grandson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Gray Mortuary, with the funeral to follow at 12:00 in the mortuary chapel. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens, with military honors.
