Gene Patrick

Belton – Richard Eugene “Gene” Patrick, Jr., 76, husband of Letha Belt Chandler Patrick, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

Born in Belton, he was a son of the late Richard Eugene Patrick, Sr. and Norma Jean Holiday Patrick.  He was owner of Gene Patrick Auction and Realty for 43 years, an avid treasure hunter, and loved the beach. Gene was a member of Cedar Shoals Baptist where he belonged to the Spiritual Workers Sunday School Class and served as a church deacon. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

   In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Richard Eugene Patrick, III of Belton; stepdaughter, Michelle Chandler Clardy (Mike) of Williamston; stepson, Chris Chandler (Amy) of Belton; nephews, David Patrick (Joy) and Patrick Tyler Stone (Lindsay); grandchildren, Mickey and J.C. Chandler, Emma and Chandler Clardy; sister, Sallie Patrick Stone (Bill) of Moonville.

He was predeceased by a brother, Tommie Patrick and a nephew, William Stone.

The family received friends, August 20, at Cedar Shoals Baptist Church with the funeral service followingat 3:00 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Howard Steven Fowler

Howard Steven Fowler, age 64, of Williamston, SC, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at St. Francis Hospital. 

Born May 4, 1957, at Anderson Memorial Hospital, he was the son of the late Howard George Fowler and Shirley Martin Fowler.  Steve was a graduate of Palmetto High School Class of 1975 and was retired from General Electric.  He was a member of Piedmont Church of God. 

He is survived by his wife, Rita Carter Fowler; son, Corey Steven Fowler (Ciara); daughter, Amber Jennings (Brian); grandchildren, Emma Grace Jennings, Isabella Webb, Jordan Jennings, Zachariah Jennings, and Emily-Rae Fowler; sisters, Rhonda Renee Fowler and Ruth Ann Roberts; and special aunt and uncle, Ruth and Wayne Fowler. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Krystal Michelle Webb; and brother-in-law, Kenny Roberts. 

The family received friends Sunday, August 22, 2021, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Belton Church of God.  The funeral service began at 2:00 pm with Rev. Norman Black and Pastor Brian Jennings officiating.  Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Brenda Walker

Brenda Kay Pearson Walker of Belton, 80, wife of Willie Eugene “Gene” Walker, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

Born in the Old Hundred Community of Pelzer, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Sarah Lou Satterfield Pearson. A member of Cedar Shoals Baptist Church, she retired from TechDigital Corporation and from the Greenville County School District.

She is survived by daughter, Darlene Gary (Allen) of Belton; sons, Matthew and Barry E. Walker of Belton; brother, Robert Earl Pearson of Belton; sister, Lynethia Ann Heaton of Piedmont; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held August 21 at Garden of Memories in Belton.

Pam Hinson

Pamela Kaye Cooper Hinson of Piedmont, 67, wife of Danny Boyd Hinson, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021.

Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Palmer Dee and Anne Rosemond Long Cooper. She retired as a nutritional specialist at Ellen Woodside Elementary School. She was a lifelong member of Grove Station Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Katherine “Kelly” Gillespie of Simpsonville; son, Daniel Dee Hinson of Piedmont; sisters, Kathy Bauer and Susie Willis; and four grandchildren.

Visitation was held August 22,  at Grove Station Baptist Church. The service followed with burial in the church cemetery.

Gaynell Andrews

Clara Ruby Gaynell Burgess Andrews of Fountain Inn, 80, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021.

Born in Pendleton, she was a daughter of the late Joe Clyde Burgess and Frances Georgia Duckworth Tompkins. She retired from Kemet Electronics.

Survivors include children, Donna McCall of Piedmont, David A. Andrews, Jr. of Simpsonville, Michael A. Andrews of Easley, Mark K. Andrews of Simpsonville, Brian M. Andrews of Laurens, Karen G. Amor (Tony) of Simpsonville and James D. Andrews of Fountain Inn; sister, Barbara Evans of Easley; brothers, Jimmy Burgess of Pickens, Charles Burgess of Crestview, Florida, Ray Burgess of Liberty, KY, Billy Burgess of Pickens and Tony Tompkins of Greenville; twenty-one grandchildren; and thirty-nine great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, August 27, in the chapel at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer. Burial will follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 123 West Atrim Dr., Greenville, SC 29607.

Vera Davis

Vera Ann Henderson Davis, 78, of Pelzerwife of Jack Dendy Davis, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021.

Born in Fountain Inn, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Chesley and Cora Smith Henderson.  She retired from the Kendall Company.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Dendy Davis, Kenneth Davis, Jackie Holcombe, and Melissa Davis; siblings, Thelma Taylor, Mildred Boyce, Edward Henderson, and Betty Armstrong; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren..

The family received friends, August 21, at Gray Mortuary, Pelzer with the funeral service followed in the mortuary chapel.

Entombment followed at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

David Watson

Williamston – David Lee Watson, 49, husband of Mindy Elizabeth Sexton Watson, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Beedie David and Brenda Deloris Howard Watson of Pelzer. David was a 1990 graduate of Wren High School and a 1997 graduate of Winthrop University, where he earned a BA in music. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where he served as music director and pianist.

   In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Madylin “Maddy” Watson of the home; sister, Melissa Watson Cagle (Allen) of Pelzer; nephew, Wesley Cagle of Pelzer; father and mother-in-law, Boyd and Jane Sexton of Piedmont; sister-in-law, Meredith Sexton Moore (Tommy) of Rock Hill; and nieces, Sara Jane, Ivy, and Eve Moore of Rock Hill.

   A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Louise Miller

Mary Louise McCollum Miller of Anderson, 83, passed away Friday, August 20, 2021.

   Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Monroe and Willie Air Evans McCollum. She retired from Mount Vernon Mills and was a member of Gardner Memorial Baptist Church.

   She is survived by her children, Marie Miller of Anderson, Patricia Miller Young of Anderson, Cathy Miller Swaney of Pendleton, Marion Miller of Anderson, Andrew Miller of Anderson, and Johnny Miller of Anderson; sisters, May Freeman of Easley and Frances Shackleford of Winston-Salem, NC; thirteen grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Gaffney Road Baptist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 p.m.

Ralph Dewitt Duncan,Sr. 

Ralph Dewitt Duncan,Sr., 77, of Williamston ,widower of the late Nellie Jane Pitman Duncan, resident of Little Beaver Creek Rd., died Thursday August 5, 2021 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born on November 24, 1943 in Pelzer to the late Marrell and Macey McCurly Duncan, he was a professional truck driver and a professional rock thrower from Pelzer.

 He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

Surviving are his children, Nettie Annette Johnson (Tim) of Easley, Debbie Lynn Baker (Joseph) of Moncks Corner, Gloria Chandler (Terry) of Pelzer, and Ralph “James” Duncan, Jr. (April) of Williamston; his grandchildren, Summer Bannister, Melissa Carver, Randall Lindley, Brandon Chandler, Matthew Chandler, and Noah Duncan; 14 brothers and sisters; 6 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday at Sug. 8,  at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Brandon Couch officiating.

 The family is at the home of Terry and Gloria Chandler, 31 Lyman St in Pelzer.

Flowers are accepted.

Betty J Madden

Betty J Madden, 86, widow of the late James Leon Madden, resident of Mize Rd., died Saturday August 21, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 10, 1934 in Anderson County to the late Bailey and Mattie Woodson Knight, she was a graduate of Williamston High School. She retired from Milliken Williamston Plant after many years of service.

Betty was a simple woman that loved to dance.

She was a faithful member of Dorchester Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children, Denese Madden ( David Wurm) of Delaware, OH, and James Bailey Madden of Belton; her sisters, Frances Trotter, Jean Stroud, and Margaret Stroud; her grandchildren, Ashley Nicole “Nikki” Smith (Joey Bryant), and Bradley Kyle Madden; her step grandson, John Wurm (Samantha); her great grandchildren, Austin Kyle, Dylan Blaze, Harley, Olivia, and Mila. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Louise Stroud.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 4:00 PM from Dorchester Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

The family is at the home and will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Cox Funeral Home.
